Which McAfee? I did the free upgrade to a completely new version about a month ago and it messed up my computer so bad I had to uninstall it. I had to go to the British McAfee site to get the old version back. Everything's AOK now. If that's the problem, you can log in with the same name and password there to get the old version back.

I have McAfee and Firefox together with no problems. McAffee just did a major update and I had uninstall/reinstall. After that, no problems.

On occasion I have had that problem. I've found when it happens I check the task manager and find the application still in the active list. I end Firefox and then it will restart properly

Hmmmmmm

Check to see if you have a RAM problem. You may have too much stuff running and the computer is stalling while it sorts out the memory demands.

Could also be a badly cluttered registry with a lot of fragments and obsolete entries.

Defrag the drive and try a registry cleanup prog.

These are things that are the most common on PC's...

I have been using Firefox for quite a while now but for some reason in the last month it started refusing to open (it freezes after the screen appears but before it connects to my homepage). I just downloaded the new release, hoping that might solve the problem. It didn't.

Does anyone have any idea why Firefox would be unable to connect? I hate having to use IE again.

best guess.... a MS "update" designed to screw with firefox..

On Firefox sometimes going up to "tools" and select "clear private data" will help.

They had a problems awhile back and I was one of the ones that it just stalled when going from certain sites to others. That was a temp fix that I believe was fixed via an update. I haven't had to do it for a few months, but I had to do it weekly for a time.

Can anyone give me a clue? i have firefox...the problem is quicktime....it also pops up "QT system extension version 5 or later required" and doesn't work. i take it off the system and i still get the message, every new page that comes up on some sites, like ebay.....
i think there must be a registry file or something somewhere i need to delete then i can reinstall but i can't find it. very annoying.

im not underdstanding your question, but you can get free quicktime from apple.

here

go to Start/settings/control panel/add remove programs and uninstall the old quicktime you have on there, then install this one(preferrably download the one WITHOUT iTunes7 people have been having problems with it) then install it, choose the default settings during the install process...

good luck.

Chances are you have a misbehaving extension installed. Try starting up Firefox in "safe mode" so that it doesn't load any extensions (firefox.exe -safe-mode). Then try uninstalling extensions. Make sure you have the latest versions of your extensions installed too.

I thought I read a year or more ago that they were going to stop making/supporting/updating Netscape, or something to that effect.

Are they still supporting and updating it? I've never used it, I'm just curious.
