True, but opposing the interstate system at the time didn't necessarily mean they were against highways per se, there were some very valid reasons to oppose the manner in which the whole deal was sold. And federal highway money for repairs have long been used as a sort of club in which to beat the various states into legislative submission on certain issues, the template of pseudo-extortion.

Gee if you read your history you know that highway systems are built in part to unify territories and enable mass migration.

Why do you suppose they want to build highways that hook up The US with mexico? Remember Cornyns bill that paid for building a highway system in Mexico with our tax money?
