Still fuming at the perfidious treachery of McCain, Graham, and Powell, I am starting this thread early today. Please post your comments, thoughts, and any news stories of interest.

Hi Mozie - I thought of you right away when I heard about the spinach e-coli outbreak. You said you threw yours out but did you eat any of it before you heard about this?
I haven't bought bagged spinach or lettuce since that young woman in Mpls. almost died some time ago from the e=coli on the lettuce. I also won't eat from salad bars or served salads in restaurants as they are all bagged lettuce also. There have been times in the past when I have become ill after eating lettuce at restaurants - though not seriously ill but enough for me to trace it back to that salad.
I also thought of you when I heard about them catching and stopping the Columbine type situation in GB. I'll bet you are familiar with that HS and probably performed there at some time.
Take care.

Silly boy. Just enter the parade and smile all the way to the end. You will look magnificent.

From a food-safety point of view? Professionally speaking? I would eat a raw spinach salad today. I'm not very young (obviously) or very old (not quite so obvious), And I have a good immune system. At the most, the risk for me is a couple of days on the throne, wishing I was dead. And that is a long shot. Keep things in perspective. In a nation of 320M+, one person has died.

I understand your point of view but I am not young at all (late sixties) and I am sensitive to stomach problems. However, that is me. As you said, only one person has died, but I don't want to risk it.

Generally, the late-60's/early-70's are the ones that are more likely to have problems, along with those 7 and younger. If you live to be 80, you are bullet-proof until you suddenly aren't.
My professional culinary suggestion for your situation would be to avoid the epinar, get a specialist onto why you are sensitive to stomach problems, and enjoy every single minute of every single day. And eat what you love, love what you eat, eat to live, and do good when you can....
But that's just me... I'm sure you have some of those policies in place already. ;>)
Just don't automatically jump on the 'avoid this food' bandwagon because of the Lame Stream Media making a mountain out of a molehill.

I used to have an iron stomach, but now I tend to take it easier on the spicy or questionable stuff. However, since I usually don't eat spinach, I'm not really going to sweat this one. Now if they had put out an alert on e-coli infected beer.... ;^)

Actually, I had eaten most of it. Last time I had some was Tuesday evening. So far so good.:)
I buy bagged greens all the time & eat some almost every day.....either mixed greens, or spinach. Guess I'll have to go back to un-bagged. Too bad because I really love the convenience but it's not worth the risk.
That high school (East) is where my nieces & nephews went to school.I've been in there a few times.Ev was a lifeguard at the park adjoining the school one summer. We live on the west side of town, so I hang out at West High, Ev's alma mater.:) East & West are of course arch-rivals in football, etc. There are other high schools in the town but East & West are the oldest and the rivalry goes back 100 years, so it gets nasty sometimes.:)
This whole thing is pretty shocking; and from what I've heard reported here, it was stopped in the nick of time; I heard one report claiming that the rampage would have occured "imminently."
God bless the student who gave the info. to the school authorities.

I've discussed this in the garage before.... E-coli laced beer.... I would volunteer for testing. After buying the local Kroger out of Tuks(tm) medicated pads. And Prep-H. (getting old sux)
Beer kills everything. And that which almost kills us... makes us wary.
And I would buy cheese. And salsa stuff. And a wide-screen TV...
But that's just me on a Friday night...;)

I'm sensitive also, in part because of medication I take daily.
I'm going to play it safe.

Compromised immune systems because of prescription drugs should be aware also. Sheeesh. I thought everyone was young, hearty, and healthy here. Except for the old Dog. And even he seems pretty fiesty most of the time.

Nope. Everybody is sorta weird and standoffish recently. I don't understand that..... Much... ;>)
But I do stand ready for a real race. I've punched lightening holes in the box, and we're .200 closer to the record. Really.

I'm going to get some much needed rest. Before one of my kids requires it and calls a deputy.
Night all. God bless us all. Each and every one. Even the weird ones. God love 'em.

As long as they don't put it into some nasty stuff, I'll volunteer for the beer taste test. And I never go anywhere out of town without my own kitchen knife and some good sharp cheddar. ;^)
