It became apparent when Tony Snowe took over the Press Secretaries job. Two things changed, Tony's Mike was "dominate" over the press mike. That allowed Tony to interrupt the press whenever he felt like it.. which is quite often.
With Tony's predicessor the press could and did raise their voices and all the press secretary could do without appearing nasty was to shut up. If the press secretary kept talking loud enough to be heard he came off like a loud mouthed fool.
At the risk of being too technical, here is how the new system works. The presidents mike is set to a master gain setting that is the same as the press. But the mike has a "compression amplifier" installed before the master gain.
When the president speaks the sound does not appear to get louder but the the press mike gets covered up by the presidents mike. That makes the president's mike is "denser" and it overrides the press mike which has no compression. The listener hears the president but does not hear the member of the press. That way the president does not have to raise his voice to be heard over the press mike. On the air you hear the president clearly and the press mike is just a mumble.
Once that was done, both Tony and the President could talk over the press and all you heard was the President or Tony. It did not sound obnoxious or nasty. It just sounded like the President and Tony were taking control.
The Press is at a technical disadvantage. This is used to give a call in show host a big advantage over people who call in. He can talk over the caller's voice without appearing to cut the caller off. One of the reasons I was opposed to Tony Snow is he did not step in on his radio callers as frequently as I thought he should.
I was pleasantly surprised to find that he did step in on the Press, and since Tony showed up so has the President. Tony must have had more respect for his callers than for the press.
I wonder if Tony brought his radio engineer with him. It quite common for an announcer/engineer team to stick together but it appears the engineer has taken on a new client.

Oh goodness.
Sure.
I'm trying to borrow a ladder so I can fall off of the roof again.

Some hick town west of Ft. Worth is having some kind of parade to commemorate some completely forgetable occasion that happened before most of the people in the old folks home were born. I dunno.
But MARKETING(tm), decided that it would be a good exposure for us. And I suppose that it is. What Marketing doesn't know is that Engineering has a line item in it's budget for hiring Guido to break Marketing legs. I've been in this business for a long time... I know the tricks.
Of course, Marketing will retaliate by selling some device that doesn't even exist in current science fiction, and blaming Engineering for the delay in defeating the physics of the universe.
It's an old game, with strong traditions... ;>)

I've got to be a team player, and medical emergency is the only excuse.
Next time someone says "Team Player" to me, I'm going to ask to be traded to the Cubs.

I'm getting ready to call it a night, as soon as we finish this big, hairy problem, and put my feet up and read.

And well he should be! Between the idiots in the MSM and John McCinsane stabbing him in the back, yet again, I don't blame him for being teed off. It's nice to see Dubya still has that old fire in the belly, and if I were at the DNC, or a member of One Note Johnny's Straight Talk Express(Colin Powell, Richard Armitage, etal.), I'd be sweating, because you finally managed to make George W. Bush angry. I've been predicting that he would turn Rove loose at the end of this month or beginning of October, but I think he's already turned himself loose. ;^)

I can read a Texas boy's mind from looking at his face.... Caption for that last pic.... "I already told you, you stupid son(redacted). {Redacted} And that, Brian... is how the cow ate the (redacted) cabbage".
I've seen that. I've heard that. I've said that.
