College Football - Live Thread - Week Three
ESPN.com Scoreboard ^ | Thursday September 14th to Saturday September 16th 2006

Week Three – College Football

Week Two gave everyone the earliest #1 vs. #2 showdown in modern college football history. The game, however, turned out to not really live up to the hype. This week we are treated to SEVERAL big games, some of which are in conference in the SEC, and a historically significant rivalry renews in South Bend.

As always, all rankings are from the ESPN.com Scoreboard page. I will also list any games of interest (FReepmail me if you want your team included and I will include them from here on out) and any other games listed in my Yahoo league.

GAME of the WEEK

Saturday, September 16th, 2006 – 3:30 PM on CBS

(6) LSU at (3) Auburn (-3.5)

This is going to be a fun game to watch I think. We have Auburn which has been the odds-on favorite to win the SEC this year against a very good and very fast LSU team that is looking to spoil the Auburn season AND put itself into the national spotlight. Both teams feature strong defenses, good running games and good coaching. Fewest mistakes wins this game. I’m going with the home team.

Auburn 16 – LSU 13

Thursday September 14th, 2006 (ESPN Thursday Night Game)

Maryland at (5) West Virginia (-17)

West Virginia gets one of their rivalry games out of the way early. This should be a decent test for a team that hasn’t beaten a BCS School yet.

It’s not in the pick’em league, but I’ll give a pick anyway.

WVU 42 – Maryland 13

Saturday September 16th 2006 (in ranking order)

Cincinnati at (1) Ohio State (-30)

Ohio State 45 – Cincinnati 7

(11) Michigan at (2) Notre Dame (-6)

Notre Dame 27 – Michigan 20

(19) Nebraska at (4) USC (-19)

USC 42 – Nebraska 20

(7) Florida (-3.5) at (13) Tennessee

Florida 17 – Tennessee 9

(8) Texas (-31) at Rice

Texas 55 – Rice 6

Clemson at (9) Florida State (-4.5)

FSU 24 – Clemson 16

UAB at (10) UGA (-17)

UGA 35 – UAB 10

(17) Miami at (12) Louisville (-4.5)

Miami 22 – Louisville 20****UPSET ALERT

Duke at (14) Virginia Tech (-35)

VT 45 – Duke 3

(15) Oklahoma at (18) Oregon (-4.5)

Oregon 28 – Oklahoma 20

Iowa State at (16) Iowa (-13.5)

Iowa 32 – Iowa St. 10

(24) Texas Tech (-1) at (20) TCU

Texas Tech 45 – TCU 39

Portland St. at (21) California (NL)

Cal 58 – Portland St. 10

(22) Arizona St. (-10) at Colorado

ASU 38 – Colorado 7

BYU at (23) Boston College(-7)

38-4 Straight UP

I think TK had better sit Bobby down and tell him Jeff has a nice job at FSU...just not on the football team.

Their offense cannot be purely about luck and good defense if they want to win the national championship again.

Mickey makes some bad calls too!!!

FSU has always had decent receivers but their QB situation since Mr. Winkie (ha ha) left has been bad. This year they have two big kids who can run that should be catching 8-10 balls between them and at least half of the catches for 20 yards plus.

yep

I think they might even beat the spread...

You know, once that USC Wide Receiver gets into the NFL, there will be like 7 Steve Smiths in the NFL??

Me either, but they have had QB troubles for years. Name a great one...and you will be naming a media-puffed, lousy-playcalling, QB.

But their WR and their secondary? WTF?!?!? FSU should be all about D secondary and great hands!

That's one luxury Roethlisberger has. Not to likely there'll be another player with his name coming along anytime soon.

It is amazing that they haven't been able to get one down there.

Weinke's the best they've had, and he wasn't that good.

Their QB situation has ALWAYS sucked. I don't care what you say about Ferguson, Johnson, etc., they were wing-and-a-prayer passers who you hoped would be forced to run.

Their receivers aren't making plays, however, which has been what FSU has done in the past. Hard to make plays when you're double covered since your O-line can't handle even a pass rush.

FSU is amazing...but UF's failure to recruit a decent QB, even with Spurrier there, is INSANE.

The Fun-N-Gun desperately needed a QB, and they have had crap luck. Leak SUCKS.

Miami seems to have the Florida QB market cornered...but on the other hand, I think Weatherford looks to be improving (jinx jinx jinx).

And btw, further evidence of FSU's ongoing suckass QB saga:

Lee Corso is a former FSU QB.

Well for this Miami's QB situation isn't much to talk about.

Question for ya, Mike:

I think ESPN and their color guys should be BLASTING crap officiating during the halftime show where appropriate (see LSU, Oklahoma), but they seem to remain silent even when it's obvious. I know they're about talking scores, but they inevitably chalk victories to 'incredible d' or 'great offense' when officiating took a far greater toll. I can't help but grind my teeth when I hear them gloss over NCAA idiocy.

Whaddya think?

I thought their kid looked pretty good against FSU.

Nebraska just looked really dumb, however, running out of the end zone.

Huskers looking like their play is not too smart, hurting em.

Wait for the college gameday final.

They generally don't blast the officiating until afterward. Lou Holtz will get on them, trust me.

During halftime they only have a limited amount of time and generally they will only talk about the game they are covering.

It'll come....just be patient.

He looked lousy today against Louisville.

USC definetly has the edge in the coaching department.

Let Sports Guy know about that.

Geez, Chris Leak is a lousy QB...lucked out of an interception there.

yeah and Tennessee had lucked out on a very borderline clip call on a punt return TD just before that.
