Nopardons, maybe the cause is simple ignorance. Some do not possess the facts and perhaps others have never met a Freemason.
Part of the problem is ignorance; however, the vast majority of it is something else.

All of what you posted plus the possibility that because of their history, they were rejected for membership. Masons do not accept anyone who has tainted or criminal history.
