Diana Wanted to Become America's First Lady

By KATE SNOW

NEW YORK, Sept. 12, 2006 — In his new blockbuster book, "The Way We Were," Paul Burrell says that Princess Diana had ambitions to become the first lady of the United States.

"She knew a billionaire in America, and she suggested to him that if they were together. … His yearning to run in politics could lead to the White House, that one day she could be the first lady and she'd visit Britain on a state visit," Diana's former butler and confidant said to "Good Morning America's" Kate Snow in an exclusive interview.

Burrell said that in the mid-1990s Diana had dreamed of following in the footsteps of stylish first ladies.

"She's been a huge fan of Jackie Onassis for years, and a huge admirer, too, of Nancy Reagan and Hillary Clinton. But Jackie Onassis had the edge. And she fantasized about redecorating the White House," Burrell said.

"It wasn't a fantasy. It could have been a reality. It really could. They would have been a golden couple."

While the mystery man in New York had political connections, he was not the love of Princess Diana's life.

Neither was Prince Charles or Dodi Al Fayed, Burrell said, who dismisses claims that Diana was engaged to Fayed when they died in a Paris car crash.

"She was not going to marry Dodi Al Fayed, because there was someone else in her life. She had a soul mate, and she'd fallen in love with someone else," he told Snow.

Sounds like small talk of the Rich and Famous to me.

Like when Marlyn Monroe speculated to Albert Einstein that they should have children together, because with her looks and his brains, the children would be unstoppable. To which Albert Einstein reportedly replied, "Yes, my dear, but suppose they got my looks and your brains, then where would they be?"

People say these things. I don't think they really mean them. This former butler has been making a good living off the Princess Diana franchise for a long, long time, and is now scraping the bottom of the barrel.

How come Katie Couric didn't lead with this story last night?

Given the story's appeal to women, I'm sure all three networks gave or will give it plenty of air time.

Thankfully, I'll miss it.

She was a fantasy. Early on, a picture of innocence. People wanted the fantasy to continue on and were even willing to ignore many shortcomings to make it do so. Then she died. She was the fairy-tale princess and the psyche is disturbed that rather than live happily ever after she had such a sad ending.

And the term billionaire was probably not precisely used (even though his Mom was married to Ari).

Real life soap opera.

And for many girls like me, Diana was a hero to them.

I've gotta admit that Diana was a breathtakingly beautiful woman.

I don't. She was reasonably attractive and had good teeth for a Brit.

Other than that she is at the top of the list of the incredibly over-hyped.

Lady Di’s one-night stand with John F Kennedy Jr. was pure chemistry
Category: SOFTPEDIA NEWS :: World

Princess Diana enjoyed a moment of pure lust with J.F.K Jr., according to a forthcoming book written by Simone Simmons

The forthcoming book “Diana: the Last Word”, written by her former friend Simone Simmons, mentions Lady Di’s passionate one-night stand with John F Kennedy Junior, that took place in New York City's Carlyle Hotel in 1995. Carlyle Hotel is thought to have been the place where the assassinated U.S President John F Kennedy has spent the nights with Marilyn Monroe.

Diana met J.F.K Junior during the three-years-separation from Charles, while the Queen was suggesting her son to get the divorce. Lady Di has previously refused to give Kennedy (who was 34 at that time) an interview for his magazine, George, but she later accepted a meeting in her suite at the Manhattan Hotel.

The writer states she only found out about the affair by chance, while talking to the Princess "about great ladies like Grace Kelly and Jackie Onassis, who she admired”. When mentioning Jackie’s name, Diana couldn’t help but laughing of her choice to go from a good-looking guy like John F Kennedy Junior to a frog-like man as she pictured Aristotle Onassis. Apparently, her confession on her American short romance has left Simmons speechless.

Their ending up in bed seemed to have been pure chemistry as Diana is said to have described her American one-night stand. “It happened. And he was an amazing lover - a ten, the tops", Diana is quoted to have said to her friend.

Simone Simmons also wrote that Diana, who was 33 at the time, concluded that a relationship between them was impossible, as she had had J.F.K. Junior’s astrological chart drawn up, after their long telephone chats which followed their romantic affair.

"The following year he married Carolyn Bessette, PR advisor for Calvin Klein, and Diana wrote to wish him well”, added the writer.

Kennedy Jr. was killed in a plane crash, together with his wife Carolyn and her sister Lauren, two years after Diana had died in a car accident together with Dodi Al Fayed, the millionaire she has been involved with at the time.

I don't think I could ever vote for someone who married a woman with such a flagrant disregard for seat belt laws.

She was, however, subject to the Law of Conservation of Momentum, apparently.

What is the fascination with Diana?

I think sandbar said it for a lot of us. Diana was a real princess when we were little girls. I remember getting up in the middle of the night to watch the wedding. It was Cinderella come to life. And until one grows up and realizes what is reality and fantasy you tend to hang on to the fantasy part. The Prince turning into the frog woke most of us up pretty early.

She had it all in a material sense and yet was so unhappy and lonely. I'm sure all women thought wow she has it all - I did when I would see her trotting around the globe looking so beautiful and being treated so crummy by "big ears" only added to her alure. She was a lot like Jackie Kennedy, that same lonliness and shyness and breeding. I only wish she could have seen her boys grow up. I'm sure she would have finally found peace and happiness.

And me, too. Plus, will there ever come a time when people like Burrell will stop trying to make a buck (pound?) off her?

She was descendant from George Washington right?

In a great stroke of good fortune for our nation, nobody is descendant from George Washingon.
