I don't know, but I think he did some lefty-ish political songs in the 60s: Lyndon Johnson Told the Nations; What Did You Learn in School Today, Talking Vietnam Potluck Blues, etc. He also did The Last Thing on My Mind, Ramblin' Boy, and Wasn't That A Party...on his site it looks like he did a song poking fun at Ashcroft's shock at a nude statue...Oh and I think he wrote "Bottle of Wine" (fruit of the vine/When you gonna let me get sober. There's a song for Ted K)
