We need the Duke people here on this. I suspect this whole rape hoax story has been a shock to them, and to many Duke parents. They have turned to us for help and we should give it to them. AFAIK, they have been model FReepers.

As I said, I dont object to them here. However they don't run the place. They don't get to tell me to get back on the topic and pretend Duke is completely clean in this. They should not be surprised, if a conservative here says, you should not send your kid to Duke. They should not be surprised if conservatives here care about this for wider reasons than just three individuals.

Remember the GOP is the party that just renominated a very liberal GOP Senator, not the party that just purged a lefty Senator who was slightly moderate on one issue. We don't purge here. We have disagreements. But I suspect the powers that be here are not going to allow it to be taken over by Dims either.

And as I said to the person, that they find themselves only able to discuss this issue on conservative site should give the cause for serious pause and reflection. The three guys they are so concerned with are being victimized by Dims. Again they need to contemplate if they want to remain among the people who are doing that or if they might reconsider their world view and join us here on more than one issue.

I don't know the guys either but I tend to call them Collin, Reade and Dave. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's because I'm around the same age and it seems weird to call them by their last names. Maybe their first names are quicker to type. I don't know.

They aren't irrelevant to me though. I'm very interested in the legal aspects of this case since I'm a law student and I'd love to see Nifong, Gottlieb and that whole group go down. But the thing that really drew me to this case and got me to start posting was that Collin reminds me alot of my youngest brother. All three guys remind me of friends of mine. So they aren't irrelevant to me.

I know of nothing that any of the Duke posters have done which is out of line. Suppose there are liberal Democrats among us on this story. I doubt they would have much interest in posting anywhere else on FR. The sooner we end this nightmare case the sooner the rot can be dealt with, and their help is invaluable. I wouldn't mind seeing more sign up.

As a college professor, maybe I have learned over the years the false sense of knowing people you can get from using familiar address with people you don't know. I don't call my students by their first names either. Not doing so reminds me, I do not know them and we have a relationships that will likely be short term and is in some sense adversarial. That is I want them to learn and they want a grade and out. [Grad students and professional students facing a professional exam like the bar are different in that respect.]

They aren't irrelevant to me though. I'm very interested in the legal aspects of this case since I'm a law student and I'd love to see Nifong, Gottlieb and that whole group go down. In some ways this is a sad admission on your part, particularly as a future lawyer. The guy who is not your race. They guy who does not remind you of your youngest brother. The unattractive person charged with a crime deserves as much protection from guys like Nifong as these three victims. I know it is human nature to be interested in a case like this because of who the victims are. I am interested in sports, though I knew little of lacrosse but that is what attracted me to check out the noise around this case.

But what has kept me interested in this case is the possibility that nothing other than the characteristics of the victim has changed in the US since the days "To Kill A Mocking Bird" was written about. Of course in that novel it was sad what happened to the victim, but the point of how awful things were systematically was much bigger and much more important.

How do you know I don't relate to people of another race or the kinds of people you're mentioning? That's assuming alot just because I said one of the guys in this case reminded me of my brother and that was one of the first things that got me interested. Just because I relate to one kind of person doesn't mean I relate only to that kind of person to the exclusion of everyone else.

I care about all kinds of people. They're all relevant to me whether they remind me of a family member or not. To me, what you said is alot more sad. That the people who are the primary victims in this case are irrelevant to you. People should never be irrelevant.

The best thing the students can do right now is vote out Nifong.

Most of us here agree.

Try being 18 years old and losing faith in the judicial system, the media, and your own administration. Talk about growing up in a hurry.

...It is beyond unbelievable that people can be so blatantly falsely accused in this country and that no one intervenes to stop the madness.

Your daughter received and early crash course in corruption, MSM, and political correctness. Scary to think where this case would be without FR and the bloggers. Welcome to FR.

I thought the Blinco's investigation report was supposed to be made public this week? Did someone change their mind?

Durham city worker robbed, another shot at

Sep 13, 2006 : 8:32 pm ET

EXCERPT

The incidents were "very sad and pathetic," City Councilman Eugene Brown said. "This is not your usual crime, to attack someone on a backhoe. Geez. This is not Fallujah. Or maybe it is. Eternal vigilance is what's needed, and probably more police officers."

Brown's mention of more officers referred to a recent report by Chalmers to the council that acknowledged that the department is 23 officers short of being fully staffed -- and that even when it has a full complement, it's another 23 officers short of meeting the needs identified by its most recent personnel allocation study.

A new allocation study is under way and should be ready in December.

Additional officers are "not the only answer, I fully understand that, but when your city employees can't work in certain neighborhoods without being fired upon, it's a very sad commentary, and we need to do a better job," Brown said.

If this is what the good officers do, what do the bad ones do? Looks like LE in NC is out of control. How come the Reverend is being charged?

Bad reporting ... one needs to read from three different sources to piece it together.

http://www.newsobserver.com/102/story/486067.html

District Attorney Colon Willoughby said he expects to see the SBI report on the incident within two weeks.

Until he sees the report, Willoughby won't make any decisions about the incident or whether he will proceed on the assault charges filed against Wise by the detectives. The resignations were independent of the SBI probe, he said.

Is it Colin or Colon? Mr. Willoughby's parents must have had a sick sense of humor or they wanted their son to be a proctologist!! On the other hand, Mr. Willoughby has to be a strange person to have retained his first name in LE.

2. Duke University's desire to get more students on campus. Duke recently built a "green" dormitory they had trouble filling with students because, like other "green" buildings, the toilets had to be flushed several times, the electricity was iffy, etc. Duke students forced back onto campus would be required to pay a pretty penny to Duke to live on campus. Thus, Duke turned a blind eye to what DPD was doing to intimidate students. What DPD and Duke did not count on was . . .

This conflicts with their recent clear efforts to drive the party scene off campus. To be precise, their efforts were to decrease the party scene ON campus which produced the predictable result of increasing the party scene OFF campus. But we both knew this.

There are way way too many houses near East Campus for Duke to ever monopolize the rental housing market.

Colon's parents made him a Jr. (Ouch!)

His first name is Clarence ... beats Colon, IMO.

Good grief - what did they have against the kid? Are you saying he came from a long line of Colons?
