Stood on the side of the road along with thousands of others and offered our respect to the family.

That's so touching, 2J. I know his family appreciated such an outpouring of love and respect for this man.

That one sure looks like it could do some damage.

The family commented to the news after the graveside service that it meant so much seeing all the people on the side of the road.

I'm glad. That's what I was trying to get across to the boys. We didn't know the guy, but we sure appreciate him and what he did and we sure want the family to know it. To ease the pain a bit, perhaps...

And it sure is nice to be able to say to my boys "Put your school away, we have something important to do." and just do it.

So true. We had literally just begun homeschooling in the Fall when 9/11 occurred. We just spent that morning watching TV; it was the ultimate in Current Events. When, at about noon, we decided to go give blood, we just had the kids take their Math books with them, and they worked on their school stuff while we waited.

We got to the Red Cross place just in time. We walked right in the door, and only had to wait about 20 minutes. When we left, the line to get in the place was out the door and around the corner of the building; must have been 100 people!

Yep...I remember the same thing. IIRC, the school district had put off going back to school until that day or maybe the day before. Matthew would've been in kindergarten, had I sent him. Instead, he was just starting second grade at home. We took the whole day off. I didn't let them watch too much, but I let them watch some. Joshua was two, and even the little he saw, he wouldn't go outside...he was afraid a plane would hit him!

We've never done school on 9/11 since. Patriot Day is a holiday.

Kewl! Thanks!

Ungh...hope we can avoid at least some of the morning traffic. I hates traffic. *shudder*

You'll be fine. They're all going the same way at least.

It's the switching lanes thing that scares me. I can drive across country if I don't have to change lanes. That's pretty much what I did, as a matter of fact. ;-)

But getting on and off and changing lanes in traffic is not something I'll ever get used to.

I suppose you won't get used to it if you've decided not to :~)

It's the depth perception thing, I think. It's stressful trying to figure out if I can fit a lane over, while at the same time moving forward at a good clip. I can do it, but I need more of a margin of error than most, and I feel like I'm in the way of other drivers for that reason.

At night, it's all but impossible...'cause half the time I can't tell which lane a car is in if there's more than one lane to the side of me. Which is yet another reason I really don't care to drive to and from Tacoma in the dark to see my brother.

Fair enough, I won't make fun of you any more... tonight anyway. :~) I'll even drive the van up there on Thursday if you want.... since it's both freeway ~and~ the Narrows.

I'd probably feel safer driving myself over a really high bridge than I would riding with a nervous driver with admittedly poor depth perception, some kind of steering problem and bad brakes. :~)

Have you tried contacts?

I've got issues with depth perception. But it seems to be better with the contacts than with my glasses.

Just a thought.

Your mileage (and distanct from the other vehicle) may vary.

To: SuziQ; All

Thanks Suzi!

We just got back a few minutes ago.

The girls and I walked around the mall and Becky got a tiny little music box with a white horse on it that plays "Home on the Range".

Then, we met up with Ramius to have dinner at Chili's. Becky got to order from the grown-up menu. Lah-tee-dah. ;-)

Ramius went home after that to start back on the dining table while the girls and I went to Creatively Yours and painted some ceramic stuff for an hour.

Came home to find that Mr. Ramius was on a roll and the master bedroom furniture is topsy-turvy. It seems that there were some spots that needed another coat of clear - and Ramius decided to seize the day. :-/

~sigh~ All in all though, Becky says that this was a great birthday. I even let her stay home from school - just this once.

Tried contacts...if my eyes are corrected equally, I see double.

From what I've read, your ability to see depth is formed pretty early. Since I all but lost the sight in my left eye as a baby, my brain never learned how to put stereo images together.

Most of the time, I just deal with it. But night driving scares me, and I have to be pretty careful in some other situations.
