***the election is over and i have no idea what i'm still doing up so late***
I decided to build a fire.
...in the fireplace, for now.
:-)
The armchair post-game pundits are going to drive me to drink.
Which, I guess, is okay as long as there's someone to drive me home.
g'nite (for real this time)
Armchairs are overrated.
Couch pundits are the ones to listen to.
I am sorry that Allen lost, but wasn't the idea of Virginia worth all the time and effort you put into the election. I know you are heartbroken. I am too, especially with Rummy gone. But your efforts were not in vain.
I have to go now, (so I won't be able to find it) but the men of Gondor say something to Frodo about what it means to be on the outer defenses in a war that they did not think they were going to win. It was the same thing Armistead said. We will not submit without a fight and our freedom is worth the sacrifice we make here today.
Well, I suppose Misada was worth it too... but we ain't there yet.
:-)
Ack. Masada. Damn this beer anyway.
This point is well stated in a scene from the 'Fellowship of the Ring':
Frodo: I wish the ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.
Gandalf: So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.
This was what kept the Byzantine Empire protecting the West from the Islamic hordes for nearly 1000 years, all the time expecting to be eventually defeated. This was the valor of the 300 Spartans at Thermopylae. We do not fight for profit, we fight for what is right!
Ride! Ride to ruin! 'er a red sun rises!
:-)
Say, does that beer come in pints??
That was a really, really lousy season finale.
I want my money back. Errr...
Didn't think it was possible, but this week's episode of LOST was an even bigger steaming pile than last week.
But South Park was... interesting.
I like winning a whole lot more than losing (I seem to lose a lot more than I win), but there must be those intangible things that guide our lives that we say yes, this is worth the fight no matter the cause.
I like your quote as well.
I believe there was much honor and resolve in Samwise. That's why he is probably my favorite character in the movies and book.
cause = cost.
Damrod is speaking to Frodo and Sam. "I doubt not that the days of Gondor are numbered, and the walls of Minas Tirath are doomed, so great is his strength and malice. But still we will not sit idle and let him do as he would."
Sounds like Damrod was listening to Churchill during the dark days of World War II.
Kudos on the word count, btw.
Mornin'
Why is it morning again anyway?
I had better get the call today. I want to leave the old job so bad...
I can really sympathize.
In other news, at 11+K words, I am still 4K behind pace. *sigh* Fortunately I have a long weekend. Maybe I can catch up.
