It's pretty obvious to me that Miami needs to make a commitment to running the ball at least until Culpepper is confident in his running abilities again...
As it was, he was running for his life half of the time and it didn't seem like he and his receivers were insynch quite yet.

Good summary of the game.
I'm from Pittsburgh (60 years). I thought the Steelers could not tackle at all, and had way too much trouble with the surface for some reason.
But, did it when they had to. I like that!

Miami needs to make a commitment to running the ball That will be easier to do on the 15 weeks they aren't playing the Steelers.

"patience" (as you mention)..... that was great!
He has learned to wait for things to happen in front of him.
If he doesn't get hurt I see him gaining around 1400 yards this year.
One small crack in the line with him..... and he's gone!

I hesitate to make the Barry Sanders comparison, simply because Parker has a long way to go to get to that level, but Parker is clearly in the same mold.
Now, if he can just remember to not run backwards after making a catch... :)

Yes.......... two good teams out there who can look forward to a fine season. Hope they both stay healthy.

They tried running. The offensive line hasn't jelled yet, and the Steelers have a great run defense. At least Brown got a touchdown or two.

When you're playing a team the caliber of Pittsburgh you just can't afford to make any mistakes.
To: MikefromOhio
Yeah their offensive line didn't get much of a push but it's not like many teams run on Pittsburgh to begin with.
To: mainepatsfan
yeah....
But when you are throwing the ball approaching 80% of the time, it's very hard to move the ball at all...
unless you are Texas Tech or Northwestern....

Especially up against a good defense.
To: mainepatsfan
Indeed.
I think at the end, the team just kind of gave up. A sort of "We've thrown everything we've got at these guys, and they just keep coming. What else can we do?" type of mentality emerged. Disappointing as hell, but it's only football.

I don't think they gave up as much as they were a bit shell shocked at how fast the Steelers rallied.
To: mainepatsfan
Maybe. But they allowed the Steelers to get back in the lead, and they had plenty of time to make a drive.
Ah well. 15 games left. Buffalo's next.

I'm surprised that San Diego is favored by 3 going into Oakland with a quarterback who has never started an NFL game. That tells me the Raiders are not highly regarded at this time...lol. I'm not even sure who is playing quarterback for the Raiders this year. Is it still Collins? He's inconsistent but capable of flashes of brilliance. If SD can run the ball well and play strong defense, then Rivers should play well enough to win.

One of the best match-ups today will be the Chiefs vs the Bengals. You got Herman Edwards in his inaugural game with the Chefs (head cook?) and Carson Palmer bouncing back from a severe knee injury in last year's playoffs. I picked KC to represent the AFC in the SB but that was with the expectation that Palmer would not be back for the start of the season. I now believe the Bengals will be right there in the thick of things. This will be the premiere early game, and will be a nice warm up act to--what I'm sure we all agree-- the main event: Cowboys vs Jags.
GO COWBOYS!!!

Cowboys - Jags is the most intriguing matchup of the day.
I'll be interested to see how KC and Cincy's defenses perform. If both haven't improved their post season fortunes won't be worth much.
