COMPUTER HELP-Looking to buy a laptop computer. (VANITY)
09/07/06 | MotleyGirl70

Posted on 09/07/2006 7:39:01 AM PDT by MotleyGirl70

My niece is a nursing student in Tucson, AZ and I need help guiding her as to which laptop she needs to buy.

She needs the basics for now; MS Word and Excel to do her homework on.

A computer that is very resonably priced and of good quality is the goal.

Yes - I am a big fan of Newegg.com. Anytime I know what I want, I buy there.

But in cases like this, where I don't know just what I want, a place such as DiscountLaptops.com is better, since it guides one to good choices.

Lol! Is that what you watch re-runs of Seinfeld on?

If so, Larry, Mr. Brightside and myself are coming over to your crib tonight! We'll bring pizza, popcorn, beer and have a blast! :)

MG70: Could I have a small popcorn?

CLERK: There is no small. Child-size is small.

MG70: What's `medium'?

CLERK: Adult.

MG70: Do adults ever order the child-size?

CLERK: [chuckling] Not usually.

MG70: [laughs appreciably] Okay, gimme the `adult'.

CLERK: Do you want butter?

MG70: Is it *real* butter?

CLERK: [perkily] It's butter-*flavored*!

MG70: [exasperated] What is it made of?

CLERK: [perkily] It's yellow!

I bought a close-out Fujitsu from Fry's at a tremendous discount. The bang for the buck was at its best with that brand. Don't forget looking at them.

To get this thread back on subject. Did you ever notice the computer in Jerry's apartment? It's a Mac.

Not that there's anything wrong with it.

Also, laptop theft on campuses are rampant so don't go nuts on a pricey machine.

Serious gaming? You won't like the video on most laptops, which are targeted at business use. Serious gaming requires serious video -- that's the biggest difference by far between a laptop good for business, home or school work, and a laptop good for gaming.

Unfortunately, serious video requires serious power, as in electrical watts. So laptop manufacturers have a hard choice - either design the system to be able to run for several hours on battery power, or put in gaming class video and to heck with the battery life.

The laptop manufacturer I recommended above, Sager Notebooks, is the leading producer of gaming laptops. I'd suggest dealing directly with them, or with their leading retailer, DiscountLaptops.com. See for example the Gaming Laptops recommendations at Discount Laptops.

I'm not a hard-core gamer, but I understand what you're saying. In fact, the only game I'm interested in at the moment is Eve Online, and the specifications I requested (I am told) would work on a laptop just fine.
