It's all over the Internet. Being pressed for time, here's one that says 180,000 in the army and 10,000 in the navy. I know that just because there's a link for it doesn't make it gospel truth, but those are generally accepted magnitudes of blacks in the Union cause.

And like southern whites, you often had to be truly dedicated to the cause to overcome all the barriers to even reach Union forces, whereas many southern conscripts and slaves served the Confederate needs only reluctantly.

The slaveowners were adept in getting others to do their dirty work no matter whether the exploited help was southern blacks or southern whites.

How about the Southern blacks and Northern whites being exploited by the factorycrats in Connecticut, Rhode Island, and specifically in the first community planned around textile manufacturing, Lowell, Mass.?

NOT a SINGLE slave EVER served IN the CSA forces, though several thousand accompanied their masters to war.

otoh, there was about 100,000 VOLUNTEERS for dixie LIBERTY, who were "persons of colour". their service records UNdeniably EXIST & are the TRUTH.

we southerners KNOW that you scalawags/DYs HATE that idea, but it is TRUE.

to quote the old saying, "if wishes were horses, beggars would ride."
