Their partnership anchored a TV cult phenomenon and inspired films, parodies, even a genre of homoerotic fiction.
Capt. James Tiberius Kirk and Spock, or rather the actors who played them, were welcomed to Toronto like gods yesterday on the eve of the 40th anniversary of the first televised episode of Star Trek.
A sold-out crowd of 500 trekkies at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre gave William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy a standing ovation as the men made a lively joint appearance, their first together in Canada.

Boy, that takes me all the way back to when Star Trek was actually fun to watch.

Incredible! I grew up in Nicaragua; and I remember watching Star Trek in Spanish, on my grandmother's black and white TV.
Ever since I have been a Star Trek fan.

as the men made a lively joint appearance, their first together in Canada."to boldly go where no-one has gone before."
I bet, just as in their series, when they arrived there was someone there already, despite the disclaimer.

I attended a one-man "Night with William Shatner" show at Arizona State in the early 1970s, and it was fantastic. He acted several scenes, one from "Galileo," one from Shakespeare, etc., and then told anecdotes from "Star Trek." Absolutely great. He really can act.

Slash stories were (and apparently still are) written by female fans, not gay guys. Never understood its attraction, frankly. Google Kirk/Spock at your own risk!

Is Shatner turning into Liberace? He wishes his brother George, er, Sam, was here. (If you don't get the reference then turn in your Trekker credentials)
