This "we"...me, doesn't contribute to the slaughter of other/any animals for food.

Yep...I'm a vegetarian and...yep, I'm 100% Republican. ;^)

Exactly. What is the difference? Billions of cattle have their throats slit al-qaeda style, why the compassion for horses ? Or even cats and dogs for that matter ?

The objection to slaughtering horses is purely emotion-based.

Heck, the horses are going to die eventually, anyway, and then they will be fed to dogs. Might as well get some steaks out of them.

(I would mention that I would love to try whale meat, but I would probably get flamed.)

You're obviously not a horse person. For those of us who are, it's a form of cannibalism. Do you eat dog? Some people do...
