Shame. Airfix had some good kits. I remember their assembly instructions to be rather iffy, though.

I did the modelling until 15; plus the odd 1 or 2 after that. Think the ones to have were by Tamiya & Hasegawa, with the former being very expensive. Not sure if modelmaking is going out of fashion though; a visit to the local model shop and it could almost be 1981 again given all the kits that I had/wanted on display and lots of new stuff as well.
