4 8 15 16 23 42 - Official Lost Season 3 Thread

WARNING - Spoilers and Speculation Allowed

Lost is returning to ABC’s Wednesday night line on October 4th (9pm)

Again, they’re messing with us with their idiotic (IMHO) scheduling. But instead of a 1 week on, 1 week off, we’ll get 6 episodes, followed by a 12 week break. It will then come back in February for 17 straight episodes.

Returning Characters:

Losties
Sayid Jarrah
Claire Littleton (and Aaron, the "baaabby")
Hugo "Hurley" Reyes
Dr. Jack Shephard
James "Sawyer" Ford
Jin Kwon
Sun Kwon
Kate Austen
Charlie Pace
John Locke
Walt Lloyd
Mr. Eko
Michael Dawson
Rose
Bernard

The Others
Henry Gale/The Other formerly known as Henry Gale
Ethan Rom
Tom/Mr. Friendly/Zeke
Pickett
Alex Rousseau
Bea Klugh
He/Him

Newbies - Actors joining the show (Character names to be added when known):
Rodrigo Santoro - recurring character (double swoon). Allegedly, he plays a survivor from the plane who has been on the island this whole time
Elizabeth Mitchell - contracted to be a regular
Kiele Sanchez - recurring character. Rodrigo's love interest

I know I’m missing some characters, especially the Losties, but that’s probably because they aren’t very memorable.

- Look for Desmond (swoon) to become a regular this season and for Ethan to make a few appearances (obviously more Island flashbacks, since Charlie filled him full of bullet holes)

- And of course Danielle Rousseau will be back.

- Michael has been downgraded to recurring character, instead of regular character.

Season 2 finale

When we last left our Losties, Kate, Hurley, Jack, and Sawyer were taken hostage by the Others, after they were betrayed by Michael. In return for helping the Others, Michael and Walt are given a boat to supposedly get off the island. Yeah, okay, good luck with that. Be seeing you again real soon.

Oh, and the hatch exploded. No more showers for our Losties. Guess, I'll just have to picture Sawyer lathering up...oh excuse me, back to the matter at hand. So, did Locke, Desmond, and Eko survive the explosion? Well, if you’ve read this far, you can probably answer that one on your own.

And Penny (Desmond’s long lost love) is seen answering a phone. On the other end of the line are 2 men in a very cold location (the opposite of our very sweaty island). 1 says “I think we’ve found it.” Hmmm. Very interesting. Or not. Tune it to find out.

Season 3 - questions to be answered

1. Kate will finally decide between Jack and Sawyer (my money is on Jack, but Sawyer would be so much better)

2. The Hatch is gone. Forever. Get over it. Oh, but wait. There might be an underwater one. Cue the Splash theme song.

3. We will find out why Locke was in the wheelchair. Promises, promises.

4. We will also find out why Libby (R.I.P.) was in the mental hospital. So obviously, she isn’t completely off the show. But, thankfully, Michelle Rodriguez is. Worst. Actress. Ever. Anybody got any scoop on who she is dating in real life? I got $100 that says it is someone of the female persuasion.

5. It has nothing to do with nanobots. Okay, maybe that won’t be answered exactly. But please. Horrible theory.

6. The polar bear returns.

7. The monster will be revealed.

Unanswered questions

1. Are Jack and Claire siblings?

2. Where is Cindy?

3. How does a show go from being the Emmy winning best drama to not even being nominated??? Stupid Emmy’s.

4. Who is Sun’s baby daddy?

Episode 1 08/07 - Jack, Kate and Sawyer open the season in captivity as prisoners of "The Others." Just who these "Others" are and what they want are primary questions Season Three will explore. Michael Emerson joins the regular cast in his ongoing role as Henry Gale, leader of "The Others." Romance looms on the horizon as Jack's interests veer towards a mysterious new woman, whose motives may be questionable. Sun and Jin will continue to celebrate their pregnancy - but is the child really Jin's? Locke and Sayid will band together with some of the other survivors and journey across the island in an attempt to free Jack, Kate and Sawyer. Charlie will attempt to return into the good graces of Claire and her baby, Aaron, but can he be trusted to stay clean and sober? The fates of Locke, Desmond and Mr. Eko in the aftermath of the implosion of the hatch are answered. Will Penny Widmore find the island and her long, lost love, Desmond, and can the survivors find a way to interact with the outside world? The band of friends, family, enemies and strangers must continue to work together against the cruel weather and harsh terrain if they want to stay alive. But as they have discovered during their 60-plus days on the island, danger and mystery loom behind every corner, and those they thought could be trusted may turn against them. Even heroes have secrets. Source - ABC

Hey, techno snafu's happen. Here's what MSN TV Buzz had to summarize for last night.

A con within a con: Still keen on escape, Sawyer tried to put together a plan to shock one of his captors, but Ben pulled the plug on it and gave Sawyer a walloping. Waking up strapped to a table, Sawyer took a syringe to the chest only to wake up again in a stranger state. Ben sat a caged rabbit on top of Sawyer and shook the animal furiously, presumably killing the rabbit. He explained that the rabbit had a pacemaker, and Sawyer now had a matching one of his own. If his heart rate exceeded 140 bpm, his heart would explode — so, no point in trying to escape. Oh, and if told Kate, they’d put one in her, too. Back in flashback, Sawyer was still a prisoner, as he convinced new inmate Munson that the warden was pulling a scam with his wife to get his hands on the money he stole. Munson trusted Sawyer enough to tell him where the money was, but ever the conman, Sawyer took the info straight to the warden for a commuted sentence.

Who do you love? Realizing that something wasn’t right with Sawyer when he returned, Kate pushed to find out what happened. He denied anything happened, but Kate knew better. When Pickett found out about Colleen’s death, he dragged Sawyer to Kate’s cage demanded to know if Kate loved Sawyer, all the while beating him to a pulp. “Yes, I love him!” Later her thoughts were back to freedom for her and lover-boy. She conveniently noticed that the top of her cell had easily accessible gaps that she could fit through. Monkey-barring her way out, she went over to release Sawyer, but he begged her to leave him. She hopped back in her cage and reminded him, “live together, die alone."

Rabbit season: Ben, and a few of his Other-pals, led Sawyer on a hike. When his heart-rate monitor started beeping, Sawyer wanted to know if Ben brought him up there to kill him. Ben told him that his heart wouldn’t explode. “The only thing we put in you was doubt.” He then produced the not-at-all-dead bunny from his sack. Turns out the bunny was sedated and it all part of an elaborate hoax, because “the only way to gain a conman’s respect is to con him.” Sawyer then saw the real reason for their excursion. It was all about the view. Looking out over the peak, he could see that they weren’t being held on the main island at all; it was their very own version of Alcatraz.

On call: Colleen wasn’t completely dead when she came back to camp, and Juliet enlisted Jack’s help in trying to save her. Jack played island-ER with Juliet, under the watchful eyes of the gallery, but Colleen died. Noticing a series of X-rays, Jack suspected there was another reason he was brought there. The X-rays showed a man with a tumor on his spine, and being a specialist in the field, Jack thought it was too much of a coincidence.

Suddenly psychic: Seems that electromagnetic blast that pitted the hatch also gave Desmond special powers of prescience. Just as he was wise to Locke’s speech before he gave it last week, this time he knew precisely when the forecast called for rain. After rounding up odds and ends from the beach Desmond put it all together. “Is it art?” Hurley asked. Explaining that it was an experiment, Desmond told an exiting Hurley that he might want to wait a minute before he left. Just then rain poured down and moments later a bolt struck Desmond’s makeshift lightening rod.

Okay, guys, sorry for not pinging last week for the episode. Between being locked off the computer for a day (not user error) and then having a sick baby, the days just got away from me.

So, after the preview I saw over the weekend, I can't even bother with recap of last week. I have to jump right into...

WHO IS GOING TO DIE??? It is supposed to be a "major" character. And it is supposed to be a Lostie, not and Other.

Man oh man. I think this episode is going to be great. Not as good an episode as when Ana Lucia bit the dust. But still looks good.

My money is on Sayid or Eko

Can't decide which.

I saw Eko will be the one to pass, unfortunately. I like him and don't want him to go.

OTOH, Lost is getting a bit violent for my liking. I'm not sure I like the direction it's heading and I'm really beginning to hate the others. Maybe that's the point, but I hope they Losties can gear up and fight back soon.

I've been thinking about why they wanted Kate, Sawyer and Jack and my thoughts are this:

Why Jack? Well, it was kind of revealed last week, but just who is it that Jack needs to save? I think it's Ben. My biggest wonder about last weeks episode, was for all the time the others have been on the island, why don't they have a real doctor? Why just a fertility doctor who doesn't know much about surgery, etc. Granted, maybe the others didn't need a serious doctor, but what if they got attacked by one of the bears or other island creatures, etc? Why a fertility doctor, too? So they need Jack to be their doctor, so maybe they are trying to slowly coerce him into being on their side of things...?

Why Kate? Maybe to use as coercion tool against Jack, so he'll do the surgery? I can't really think of why they'd want her on their side or what they could use her for otherwise.

Why Sawyer? I don't know on this either. Maybe to use as a coercion tool against Kate for something?

I suppose we'll find out this week, or so the previews say.

Common sense tells me it's Eko. He's hurt, the episode is a flashback about him. The actor is also booked on Regis & Kelly tomorrow or Thursday.

But then, I also remember reading about how ticked off the writers were when it was leaked Shannon was being killed off. So, I'm kind of hoping that is a foiler. Remember that Colleen warned Sun if she shot her there would be a price to pay. So I wonder if the Others are going to kill someone for revenge.

The previews would certainly lead us to believe Jack is there to help Ben, but there still is possibility that there is a "him" and he needs the help. Or the x-rays are fake and it's all part of a plan to bring Jack to their side.

As for Sawyer and Kate - I think they need Sawyer on their side to con someone and I think Kate is their as incentive to Sawyer to do whatever it is they are going to ask. They already proved that she is his weakness.

And for the fertility doctor - there are definitely sub plots involving children. There's a reason they wanted those kids from the tail section and they wanted Claire's baby. And that's where she comes in. We just haven't seen enough of that to know yet what it is exactly they are doing. But it was very curious that she said they hadn't a need for a crash cart ever or any other major equipment for surgeries. All that time on the island and no one has gotten hurt or sick enough to warrent major treatment?

I also think Ethan might have been their regular doctor/surgeon.

Well, common sense said it was Eko and it was. The best part of that episode was Locke repeating what Eko said before he died - you're next.

Episode 5 - “The Cost of Living”

Stop reading if you haven’t seen the episode.

The curse of the DUI strikes again. Okay, I think technically the charges against Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje were dropped. But the damage was done. Or by his accounts, he was only contracted to be on the show for a short time. Yeah, and Michele Rodriguez is a good actress.

I thought about doing a synopsis of the episode, but that seemed a bit silly. If you watched it, you don’t need a recap. If you haven’t seen it yet, you probably don’t want to know the specifics.

But, seeing as this show is really starting to hurt my over analytical head (also doesn’t help that our household has been passing around the cold for a week), I’m curious as to what we learned this week? And what might I have missed.

We definitely learned that the Smokey is a bad ass. But sometimes he’s good? Why would Locke have seen a bright light when he saw it?

And why did Locke pretend he didn’t know the tvs in The Pearl showed other hatches? He watched Jack on it last season. Playing dumb? Bad writing? Trying to make the young hot chick in skimpy clothing hot for him?

And a little unofficial poll. Do you trust Juliett? Or is her little act all a part of the bigger game? Or is she just trying to become the leader?

The Pearl showed the station that the button was in, but apparently Locke had thought that the button station was the only experiment.

(As viewers, I think we had all figured out that the Pearl woul connect to all the stations, but apparently we are to believe that Locke didn't figure that out.)

Smokey is more interesting now, in my opinion. As a fundamentalist Christian, what happened to Eko was a very "Christian" response to his attitude and beliefs. When placed in a situation to "confess", he uses the "I did my best, so I did not sin" excuse. A Christian's belief would be that even our best falls short of the glory of God and thus we are in need of forgiveness of our sins.

He was rejected for this by his "brother" and thus sentenced to death. His sins were not forgiven. I think that the first time Locke encountered Smokey, he was in a state of Grace, but now he has lost his faith at least once and is in a state of needing forgiveness. When he encounters Smokey again, he will likely need to purify himself or face the same fate.

First off, the "new" old characters have got to go. Nikki and Paoulo suck! I hate that they dumb down the show. Every time they;re involved there has to be some kind of summary of events that we already know about.
That being said, I think Jack is being manipulated by both Ben and Juliet. She knew exactly what she was doing with those x-rays. She wanted Jack to see them. I think there is a huge power struggle between the two former lovers Ben and Juliet.
To his credit, Ben is a lot more honest about his manipulations, whereas Juliet is far more sneaky. I think Ben knows this as well and even warned Jack when he made the comment about it not being an accident that Juliet is taking care of him and she has a remarkable resemblance to Jack's ex-wife. Juliet also made it a sort of touche moment when she told Ben she didn't tell Jack who the x-rays were of, Ben did.
However, with this show, who knows? Maybe the whole "power struggle" thing is just a facade and all part of a major plan to brainwash Jack.
If it isn't, then who is truly the bad guy? Ben or Juliet? Knowing past JJ Abrams stuff, one is led to beleive that Ben is really the good guy and Juliet bad, but maybe he really throwing us a curve here and what we are seeing is actually the truth? Who knows?
It's good to see Locke taking command. He is by far my favorite character. Eko was my second, but Desmond has replaced Eko as my second favorite.
Even when he was milquetoast, Locke was still the most badass character on the show.
So far I'm loving season 3!

Do you know if there are any theories on why Ben would have a tumor when Rose's cancer went away and Locke's paralysis was cured when they arrived on the island?

You said everything I was thinking.

Locke is #1 and Desmond is #2 for me as well. I LOVE that Desmond seems so witty now and with his pre-ceptions of things happening, he plays it well.

Hopefully Jack won't get duped, but I fear he will, regardless of who is being honest or what the truth is behind Ben and Juliette's stories.

Why now, in Season 3, are we introducing new people? It's stupid and takes away from the story line, imo.

The "others" bother me, in that they always are claiming to be the good guys, but they act out in such voilent and deceptive, sneaky ways. They are not good, imo and are up to something...

I suppose we'll see, but I hope more questions get answered soon. It is getting old (imo) having more questions than answers, at the end of every episode.

That is a very good question I am wondering myself and considered putting in the ping.

But here's my thing. We don't know for sure Rose's cancer has been cured. She's convinced and maybe that belief is enough to make her feel better.

And we don't know how Locke got into the wheelchair yet. It could be psychological and was affected by the shock of the plane crash.

elc,

That's a great point. Maybe it's all about the faith (the rest of the show sure seems to be!)

pinging my brother, new freeper talinkor, to comments in post#95:

What do you think about that angle?

The Others have a reputation for being duplicitous (extreme understatement), so there is absolutely no way to figure out what they have in store for Jack, if Juliet really wants Jack to kill Ben, or if Ben even has cancer at all! The Dharma Initiative did include research on control, conditioning, behavior modification etc. Elaborate plans, hoaxes, and set-ups are all part of the mix.

As to whether or not Locke and Rose were really healed/were injured to begin with...well, only time will tell. Spoilers say we will find out this season about Locke and his wheelchair.

Is faith the key? Or is it all about control?

Agreed, it's time to start getting some answers to older mysteries and start new ones. I feel there are too many new questions without some of the old ones being answered.
For example, it would have been nice to have an explanation of the Black Smoke when we saw it, instead it's still the same "whatever-it-is" it has always been. What about "The Black Rock"? And we haven't seen Rousseau since she shot Ben in the shoulder.
Some of these questions need answering.
