4 8 15 16 23 42 - Official Lost Season 3 Thread
WARNING - Spoilers and Speculation Allowed
Lost is returning to ABCs Wednesday night line on October 4th (9pm)
Again, theyre messing with us with their idiotic (IMHO) scheduling. But instead of a 1 week on, 1 week off, well get 6 episodes, followed by a 12 week break. It will then come back in February for 17 straight episodes.
Returning Characters:
Losties
Sayid Jarrah
Claire Littleton (and Aaron, the "baaabby")
Hugo "Hurley" Reyes
Dr. Jack Shephard
James "Sawyer" Ford
Jin Kwon
Sun Kwon
Kate Austen
Charlie Pace
John Locke
Walt Lloyd
Mr. Eko
Michael Dawson
Rose
Bernard
The Others
Henry Gale/The Other formerly known as Henry Gale
Ethan Rom
Tom/Mr. Friendly/Zeke
Pickett
Alex Rousseau
Bea Klugh
He/Him
Newbies - Actors joining the show (Character names to be added when known):
Rodrigo Santoro - recurring character (double swoon). Allegedly, he plays a survivor from the plane who has been on the island this whole time
Elizabeth Mitchell - contracted to be a regular
Kiele Sanchez - recurring character. Rodrigo's love interest
I know Im missing some characters, especially the Losties, but thats probably because they arent very memorable.
- Look for Desmond (swoon) to become a regular this season and for Ethan to make a few appearances (obviously more Island flashbacks, since Charlie filled him full of bullet holes)
- And of course Danielle Rousseau will be back.
- Michael has been downgraded to recurring character, instead of regular character.
Season 2 finale
When we last left our Losties, Kate, Hurley, Jack, and Sawyer were taken hostage by the Others, after they were betrayed by Michael. In return for helping the Others, Michael and Walt are given a boat to supposedly get off the island. Yeah, okay, good luck with that. Be seeing you again real soon.
Oh, and the hatch exploded. No more showers for our Losties. Guess, I'll just have to picture Sawyer lathering up...oh excuse me, back to the matter at hand. So, did Locke, Desmond, and Eko survive the explosion? Well, if youve read this far, you can probably answer that one on your own.
And Penny (Desmonds long lost love) is seen answering a phone. On the other end of the line are 2 men in a very cold location (the opposite of our very sweaty island). 1 says I think weve found it. Hmmm. Very interesting. Or not. Tune it to find out.
Season 3 - questions to be answered
1. Kate will finally decide between Jack and Sawyer (my money is on Jack, but Sawyer would be so much better)
2. The Hatch is gone. Forever. Get over it. Oh, but wait. There might be an underwater one. Cue the Splash theme song.
3. We will find out why Locke was in the wheelchair. Promises, promises.
4. We will also find out why Libby (R.I.P.) was in the mental hospital. So obviously, she isnt completely off the show. But, thankfully, Michelle Rodriguez is. Worst. Actress. Ever. Anybody got any scoop on who she is dating in real life? I got $100 that says it is someone of the female persuasion.
5. It has nothing to do with nanobots. Okay, maybe that wont be answered exactly. But please. Horrible theory.
6. The polar bear returns.
7. The monster will be revealed.
Unanswered questions
1. Are Jack and Claire siblings?
2. Where is Cindy?
3. How does a show go from being the Emmy winning best drama to not even being nominated??? Stupid Emmys.
4. Who is Suns baby daddy?
Episode 1 08/07 - Jack, Kate and Sawyer open the season in captivity as prisoners of "The Others." Just who these "Others" are and what they want are primary questions Season Three will explore. Michael Emerson joins the regular cast in his ongoing role as Henry Gale, leader of "The Others." Romance looms on the horizon as Jack's interests veer towards a mysterious new woman, whose motives may be questionable. Sun and Jin will continue to celebrate their pregnancy - but is the child really Jin's? Locke and Sayid will band together with some of the other survivors and journey across the island in an attempt to free Jack, Kate and Sawyer. Charlie will attempt to return into the good graces of Claire and her baby, Aaron, but can he be trusted to stay clean and sober? The fates of Locke, Desmond and Mr. Eko in the aftermath of the implosion of the hatch are answered. Will Penny Widmore find the island and her long, lost love, Desmond, and can the survivors find a way to interact with the outside world? The band of friends, family, enemies and strangers must continue to work together against the cruel weather and harsh terrain if they want to stay alive. But as they have discovered during their 60-plus days on the island, danger and mystery loom behind every corner, and those they thought could be trusted may turn against them. Even heroes have secrets. Source - ABC
I checked them earlier and they were okay. But something strange sometimes happens when you click the Message Board link - sometimes it takes you to their old forum that is no longer up and running. You just have to close it down and click the link again.
Since the others have abandoned the compound, can’t the survivors move in there?
My Serious, Logical Thoughts on Left Behind
Greetings, welcome to the wonderful world of not knowing what is going on.
TITLE
Refers to Juliet and Kate being left behind by the others. Left Behind is also the name of a popular Christian book series on the rapture. It was parodied on a Simpsons episode and called Left Below.
MY SERIOUS, ALTERNATE TITLE
Another title for this episode might be: The defiant ones, lady style. Named after the 1958 movie The Defiant Ones starring Tony Curtis and Sydney Poitier. In the movie Curtis and Poitier are escaped prisoners who are handcuffed together. The show has been remade three times:
# In 1972, with gender reversal, as Black Mama, White Mama, starring Pam Grier and Margaret Markov.
# For television in 1986, as The Defiant Ones, starring Robert Urich and Carl Weathers.
# In 1996, as Fled, starring Laurence Fishburne and Stephen Baldwin.
WHO IS BAD?
Ok, for a while now, we have known that the others like to make lists of who has been naughty and who has been nice. Theories have ranged from being morally corrupt to being ill with a contagious disease. Finally, in this episode, Locke almost maybe gives us a possible reason. He says that the others told him who Kate really is and what she did and that they are not very forgiving. This implies the whole good-bad thing is based on morality. But what Kate did was not done against the others, it was done against her mom. So the others have nothing to forgive.
WHO IS A GOOD MONSTER?
The fact that the sonic weapon stopped the monster cold is a strong indication that the sonic weapon was created to keep the monster out. But who built it? And where does the monster come from? Evidence points to the DHARMA initiative. Especially since Juliet had no knowledge of the monster supposedly. DHARMA originally created the monster in one of their experiments. It may have been intentional, but it also may have been a mistake. The monster, like Santa, Judges you to be good or bad. The flashes of light you see when Juliet and Kate are hiding are lightening going on in the black cloud. We have seen it before. I believe there is more to the monster than just the cloud. The cloud is just what they are showing us. It may also be possible for the monster to change forms. It could be a swarm of intelligent nanobots as has been suggested.
CONNECTIONS
In this episode, we see Cassidy, the former partner of Sawyer teaming up with Kate. We met Cassidy in the episode, The Long Con. It is fun to watch the two talk about Sawyer yet never mentioning his name. Now both girls have slept with the same man yet neither knows about it. But we do. I see that Cassidy has continued the con game even after Sawyer has conned her out of her savings.
THINGS THAT MAKE YOU GO HMMM?
What did Sawyer do to\with his dad, the man from Tallahassee?
Interesting that the other would just abandon their homes. Where will they go now? Is there a Hilton on the island I do not know about? No, John Locke and the others are now on their way to the magic box.
For the first time, Locke admits that he does not want to leave the island. We strongly suspect he will become crippled again if he leaves just as Rose believes her illness will return if she leaves.
If Hurly thinks that Sawyer is the only one there qualified as a leader, then they are in real trouble.
Is Juliet really a spy? We never actually saw Juliet being left behind or being hit by knock out gas. She could be making it up, and Ben could have planted her as a spy. Perhaps with promises. The flashbacks in this episode were about two women doing their own con to get Kate to see her mom. This could have the double duty of plating the idea of conning in our minds again.
The bandage on the hand of John Locke. How did he get that? Was it in a struggle with his father perhaps? Or did the submarine explosion cause it?
Was this the first time that Sawyer himself has been conned? And by Hurley? hmmmm
The song playing when we see Kate with her broken down car is called Walking after midnight by Patsy Cline.
Since Locke says that the others have captured him only temporarily, they must think of Locke as a good guy.
Kate said she killed her stepfather because he was a bad guy. That is the same reason that Goodwin gave as to why he killed one of the tailies. Cassidy said that Sawyer was a bad guy, and the others (Danny) really wanted to kill him.
When Juliet says that it is going to rain, is that because she sees storm clouds or because she has the same ability as Locke to predict the weather?
In the episode, The Long Con, when Sawyer and Gordy eat at a restaurant where the mother of Kate is working, it is not the same place she is working at as we see in this episode. So the mother of Kate must have changed jobs at some point. However, in the episode, What Kate Did, her mom is working in a diner. So has she had three different jobs since Kate committed her crime?

Q
I kept getting an error message when posting, so.....sorry for the quadruple ping....I guess I wanted everyone to get a jist of “what was going on”...hee hee
I wonder, why Juliette didn't unlock the handcuffs right away?
What happened to Danielle?
Why didn't the black cloud fly over the sonic barrier?
Personally, I think Juliette is a spy. I think, like she told Kate about why she didn’t unlock the handcuffs, because she didn’t want to be left behind again....that is was a ruse to try to cause empathy on Kate’s part...
Good question about the black cloud...it didn’t seem to have a problem going high, when it threw the pilot up into the tree, so why it couldn’t go over the barrier, unless....the sonic sound the barrier emits, caused it to freak and not control itself? Hmmm....
Hopefully next week, even if she is a spy, I hope Juliette offers SOME answers.
Looks like you were proven correct last night. They had me going there for awhile. I was starting to feel sympathetic towards Juliette.
Sorry I forgot to ping you guys yesterday about last nights episode....
In any case, here is My Serious, Logical Thoughts on One of Us
TITLE
Refers to Juliet. Is she one of us as Jack proclaims at the end of the episode? There was another episode called ONE OF THEM which referred to Ben who did indeed turn out to be one of them.
BABIES
Despite the claim of Juliet that mothers cannot have babies on the island, the following have had babies on the island: Claire, Rousseau, the mother of Benjamin Linus. So it is possible. It is true that Rousseau was very well along in her pregnancy when arrived and so was Claire. This plot is eerily similar to the plot of a recent movie called Children of Men. In the movie, women around the world can no longer conceive, but one woman becomes pregnant and a man must bring her to safety.
JULIET AND ETHAN
I have a problem with the story that Juliet told about Claire. She claims that they were trying to save Claire by giving her injections to keep her alive in the later stages of her pregnancy. But why the secrecy? Why not just tell her that? Also consider that when Ethan kidnapped Claire, he told her that he was going to miss her which may imply that she was going to die. Alex told Claire that they were going to kill her and that is why she rescued her. Undoubtedly during her kidnapping was the time that they put the implant in Claire which they activated in this episode and caused her to be sick. But would this not imply that they knew that Claire was going to get away from them? Or it may have been a precaution in case she escaped. Also the story sort of confirms the statement of Ben that they are the good guys. I do not quite believe that. Also if the injections are for pregnant women then why did Desmond take them?
NUMBERS AND INJECTIONS
Another thing to notice is that the bottle that contains the serum has the Hurley numbers on it. This number is also on the hatch. But if the hatch was created by DHARMA and the serum was created by the others, this implies a relationship between the two unless of course you believe the numbers have mystical powers.
MITTELOS BIOSCIENCE
The fact that no one has ever heard of MITTELOS BIOSCIENCE may mean that it does not actually exist. It may be just a front that Alpert and Ethan used to recruit Juliet to make them look more legitimate. Also they take Juliet to an airport, but the trip to the island is by sub. What may have happened is they took a short plane ride to the sub. This seems more plausible than the sub leaving from the airport itself. They may have drugged her not only because the trip was harsh but because they wanted to keep the way to get to the island and the location of the sub dock a secret. This makes more sense to me as every one else on the sub was awake. Why does Juliet have to go out?
HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT?
How does Juliet and the others in general know so much about the LOSTaways? Well, first of all, let me say that it is not esp or anything like that. The clue comes from when Ben asks Mikail for files on every passenger and Mikail says that he is already working on it. But how would they know such as information like James killed shrimpie the night before boarding the plane? Because by now the police in Australia have figured it out and it has become public knowledge. Also remember that Sawyer has a partner who knows that Sawyer did shoot shrimpie and could have easily ratted him out to the police.
How does she know about Basra? First some background. Basra is the second largest city of Iraq and was the site of a battle during the first gulf war. Also In March through May of 2003, the outskirts of Basra were the scene of heavy fighting in the 2003 invasion of Iraq. I do not know exactly what Sayid did in Basra. Most like torture someone.
IS JULIET A SPY?
Let us weigh the evidence. First, Juliet was left behind on purpose. She was not gassed because Ben gave her a gas mask. According to the plan of Ben, she handcuffed herself to Kate to gain her trust. The implant was set off in Claire so Juliet could save the day and thus earn the trust of the LOSTaways. Ben wanted Juliet at the beach with the LOSTaways. Why? Possibly to watch the baby, or keep an eye on all the LOSTaways. So all of this evidence points to Juliet being a spy. But now I ask you to consider the following evidence:
That statement that Juliet says to Rachael that I am never going to fit in with these people turns out to be quite true as is evidenced by her crying to Ben about wanting to go home. This may also be a clue that she is indeed one of US and not one of THEM.
The title ONE OF US may be a clue that Juliet is one of us since in the episode ONE OF THEM Ben turned out to be one of them.
Juliet tried to get Jack to kill Ben.
The only reason Juliet is still on the island is because she wanted to save her sister. It was not out of loyalty to Ben or their cause.
At the end of the episode, Ben asks Juliet if she is all right and Juliet pauses and says she is fine. This may indicate that she is not fine and is just playing Ben.
THINGS TO WATCH FOR
When Juliet and her sister Rachael drive up to the MITTELOS the song downtown by Petula Clark is playing on the radio. This is the same song that Juliet plays on September 22, 2004 when the plane came down on the island. The song reminds Juliet of home or just that there are better places out there than the island. The song is an escape for her.
Since Juliet has been on the island for three years, this puts her departure date at September 22, 2001 which is shortly after NINE-ELEVEN. Planes had been grounded but were back in the air before September 22.
Where is Rousseau? Is she planning to contact Alex?
Why does Ethan say that Juliet is hoarse after waking up on the sub? She did not sound hoarse when she spoke.
Juliet slept with Goodwin. (oh no!) We never see her have remorse for his death. In fact, we never see the others mourning the death of their own people. Did you see anyone cry about Mikail, Bea, Ethan, or Goodwin? They seem to welcome death.
Why send out two highly qualified doctors on a spy mission? They both were killed in their mission which leaves them two doctors down. A rather expensive price to pay for two lists. Why not send someone more expendable? Ben knew he was sick and needed a doctor so why the huge risk?
The pregnant woman who died was named Sabine, but those named this can pronounce it SA Bean Ah.
Ben said that Jacob would see to the cure of the cancer of Rachael. Jacob and Rachael are both biblical names. So is Benjamin.
Do not forget that Sun is pregnant. Will she need injections. But nine months on the show would likely take years if not the rest of the series.
Would Claire really have died without the serum?
Karl developed the X-rays of Ben. Karl is the boyfriend of Alex.
The book club was reading Carrie, a Stephen King book. Ben asks why she chose such a depressing book, but this may be because she herself is depressed.
September 22, 2004 is around the time of the equinox, when the sun is halfway between its high and low points in the sky at noon during the year.
The name of the son of Rachael is named Julian.
When Ben says that he will see Juliet in one week, this may not mean that Juliet will abandon the beach in one week, but that she will check in with Ben in a week.
Also, Richard was making the video when they were watching Rachel and Julian. And when Ben told Richard he could come back now, it was like he wasn’t very far away or that it was easy to just come right back to the island. Could it be that the island they are all on isn’t that far from civilization as they are being led to believe?

If Michael Emerson, the wide-eyed actor who plays the mysterious leader of the Others on Lost, seems to relish the cunning ambiguity of his character, he can be forgiven. For a theater guy, he's taken a beating on TV.
Previously, Emerson's best-known small-screen role was an Emmy-winning arc in The Practice that ended with his character's decapitation. Even Lost had him roughed up by his captors (the "good" guys) in the second season.
So Emerson, 52, has infused Ben Linus with gentle menace or devious calm, take your pick. As a stage veteran, he creates uneasiness with the tools at hand: his twitchy blue eyes and his crisp, soothing voice. It's a drama that doesn't rely on incidental music or pyrotechnics.
Lost isn't without bombast. It blew a plane out of the sky and spawned various sorts of jungle menaces, from polar bears to mysterious black smoke. Still, Lost fanatics buzz loudly about quiet Ben who insists he, too, is a good guy.
Emerson doesn't help Ben's cause when he informs, frankly, that in the land of Lost, "the day will come when we find out who he's really fighting. And it will make your hair stand on end. You'll wish Ben had been badder.
"Something's coming. And whatever it is will make the battle between the Lostaways and the Others pale."
He also mentions some business about "bloodshed on the horizon," but it's hard to be concerned about anything as specific as bloodshed with that "something" having been said in a voice that sounds just enough like Ben's to cause worry.
On the topic of villains, Emerson suggests Ben's perceived creepiness is America's fault, not the character's. When Anthony Hopkins' Hannibal Lecter is mentioned, he says that role was part of "a great tradition: that of the gentleman villain.
"We find that kind of character particularly scary in America, but I don't think it works as well in other places. But we have such a bias against education. A bias against people who speak well. We like men of action. When confronted by a smooth-talking intellectual, we impose a subtext on them. People think Ben Linus is the wickedest man ever seen. But what can we actually charge him with? Very little. Where's the body count? Other people on that show have much more blood on their hands."
True, though it should be stated that Lecter also ate somebody's face on-screen and had peculiar culinary accompaniments to his fava beans and chianti.
Emerson who in interviews often comes across as homesick for the New York stage seems enamored of playing this question-mark character. He seems to be enjoying his time in Hawaii, where the show shoots, though his work environment has changed.
"I had light duty, mostly indoor stuff, always in hatches or underground chambers," he says. "Working in the comfort of air conditioning.
"Suddenly I have three weeks of tramping through jungles, standing on windy rocks it's dirty and buggy and crazy. The places the rest of the cast has been the entire time. They have no sympathy."
Similar to how the castaways feel about Ben. Until Lost serves up some sort of new menace phantom or otherwise he's going to have to be its gentleman villain. Emerson seems a fit for the part, since he does defiantly bookish things like holding a grudge against John Wilkes Boothe for giving American theater a bad name and answering a question about Hawaii by referencing Mark Twain's time there as documented in Roughing It.
Unlike the scheming Ben, though, Emerson is rather humble about what he brings to Lost. He calls himself "a small cog" and several times deflects credit to the show's writers. Even the cast is caught up in the show's mysteries. Emerson mentions a group of them gathered recently to bat about ideas. "We were reading bits of script like tea leaves."
No luck there.
Emerson promises the season's remaining episodes will be thrilling and satisfying to fans, though even he doesn't know how they end. He's shot scenes for episodes out of sequence, and then there are the notorious secret scenes about which the cast is kept in the dark until the last moment.
The production, as he describes it, seems to be controlled chaos.
"I'd love to be a fly on the wall at some of the writing sessions," he says.
As for those tea leaves in his possession, they have him feeling optimistic. "Based on my reading of the scripts, I think I might make it," he says. "I certainly hope to be on the show next season.
"It always gets our attention when we get secret scenes. Last season, I was called for a day of work on a secret scene. No script, nothing. Just show up. That was the day we killed Ana-Lucia. So you never know."

Q&A WITH EMERSON
For all of Lost 's secrecy, there's little mystery about its fans: Many are sleuths and a little obsessive, playing with acronyms, hunting down lyrics to obscure Kinks songs and knitting together theories about the show's vast mythology.
While cynics may scoff that a cloud of jungle smoke is just a cloud of jungle smoke, Michael Emerson is not among them.
"I fully understand it, all of the stuff in Lost it's there on purpose. All that stuff (executive producers) Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof are playing with, it's not for kicks. Sometimes they'll tease something for a year or two and then pay it off handsomely"
He also suggests a payoff is coming soon.
A few contributors on thefuselage.com chipped in with questions our Lost blogger passed along.
Emerson, like his character, was vague, teasing and possibly honest.
Q: Does Ben the character feel physical or emotional pain?
A: Oh, I think both. He certainly feels psychological pain.
Q: Does Ben know anything about the four-toed statue?
A: No. Well, I don't. Though I had occasion to talk to the sculptor at a party the other night. He said they still have it in storage. It's considered a working prop.
Q: Is Jacob an acronym for Just Another Con of Ben's?
A: I have heard that. Moreover, we have had cause to discuss it within the past few days in our work. But there is not an answer.
Obviously, Lost's creators can't spill all the beans this season since the show has been renewed for a fourth.
So Therese Odell, who writes the Chronicle's Lost blog (blogs.chron.com/tubular), lists five questions the show's fans would like answered by the end of this season and five that can wait . . . for now:
We need to know:
Why are the Others on the island?
What's the deal with the polar bears?
Is Christian (Jack and Claire's father) alive on the island?
Who is the father of Sun's baby?
Did Walt and Michael really escape?
These can wait:
What is the "magic box"?
Where is the island?
Why can't anyone (including God, according to Ben) see the island or get off the island?
Will the survivors ever go home?
Are the connections between the characters significant, or is it all merely coincidence?
Welcome to the LOST report I am qcotms with the review of Catch - 22. Original air date 4/18/2007. I cannot get the AOL server to cooperate today so I must post here. There may be several sections so look for a part two perhaps.
TITLE
This is a book by written by Joseph Heller published in 1961 about a man who is trying desperately to be certified insane during World War II, so he can stop flying missions. It was made into a movie in 1970 starring Alan Arkin, Jon Voight, Martin Sheen and others. More generally catch - 22 is a saying defined as a frustrating situation in which one is trapped by contradictory regulations or conditions. For example, suppose a person was on welfare because they could not find a job, but since getting on welfare the person stopped trying to get a job. So the person has no job which puts them on welfare, and the welfare prevents them from getting a job. That would be a catch - 22 situation. Got it? In this episode, the catch - 22 situation might go something like this: the life of Charlie is threatened but Desmond saves Charlie which leads to another situation in which the life of Charlie is threatened. Question: Which came first the book or the saying? The answer at the end of the report.
FELLOWSHIP OF THE FLING
Desmond recruits Hurley, Jin and Charlie for a quest because he needs everything to play out exactly as he has seen it so he can be reunited with Penny - or so he thinks. In the flashforward sequences, he never actually meets up with Penny. This is the first episode where we actually get to see the flashforward visions of Desmond. But Desmond does actually change the events in his vision by saving Charlie. Is this why the woman in the tree was not Penny or would that have happened anyway?
CABLE GUY
The cable the Hurley uncovers in the sand may connect to an underwater beacon used to signal the sub. This has quite working since the EMP.

The LOST report PART II
AND A PARTRIDGE I MEAN A BAG IN A TREE
In the bag in the tree is the book Catch - 22 and inside the book is a photo of Desmond with Penny. Note the book is called Ardil - 22. Ardil is Portuguese for catch? The nearest Portuguese speaking country is Brazil. Penny has located Desmond probably after searching for him for three years. The two Portuguese speaking gentlemen in the season two finale detected the EMP which located Desmond for her. In this episode, we finally have proof that she was indeed looking for Desmond when searching for the pulse. The big question is how she knew the pulse would lead to Desmond. Who is the woman in the tree? Is she someone sent by Penny? An employee perhaps? Let us not forget that the father of Penny is in charge of Widmore construction which has something to do with the island, and I think built the hatches. That may be how Penny knew what to look for.
The helicopter went down possibly because the island interfered with it just as the ship of Rousseau had trouble before being forced to the island. Also the plane of flight 815 had trouble with their controls before the EMP.
THINGS THAT MAKE YOU GO HMMM
When Desmond turns in his robe, notice the picture on the desk of the monk with a gray haired woman. The photo appears doctored. It looks like the picture of the woman was cut and pasted in. This is the same woman that Desmond saw in his flashbacks who sold him the wedding ring. See the episode, flashes before your eyes.
The story about Mount Moriah and Abraham and Isaac is real and found in the Old Testament. The meaning here is that God tested the faith of Abraham just as he may be now testing the faith of Desmond.
With the death of Eko, Desmond now takes over his role as the spiritual character, thus keeping the triangle of science, faith, and philosophy in tact: Jack, Desmond, Locke.
Desmond calls everyone brother because he was once a monk.
The head monk tells Desmond that God has another plan for his life which may refer to the island and Desmond saving the world by turning the key in the hatch. Note that just before he turns the key he says I love you Penny.
A message to Kate: Kate, they come in assorted colors. Use them. Pregnant women do not do so well on this island. Also, do you really want to have the baby of Sawyer?
The cross on the wall looks like the same cross in the church of Eko.
We have not seen Bernard or Rose for quite a while, but at least Bernard is mentioned in this episode. Bernard may be a Phil Collins fan.
It has been quite a long time since we have seen a Charlie flashback.
OTHER STUFF
The Hurley numbers do make an appearance in a roundabout way. Sawyer saying that they must play ping pong every 108 minutes referring to the number of minutes they had to press the button in the hatch.
Look for Moriah wine in a future episode. Mark my words; somebody else is going to be drinking a bottle of that stuff.
Desmond tells Jack that he has taped his share of ankles. Jack seems to be aware of this. This is probably because Desmond met Jack when he was running in a stadium, and Jack went down.
When arriving at the cable, the fellowship is singing Colonel Bogey March from the movie Bridge on the River Kwai starring Sir Alec Guinness (Star Wars).
When pulling up the cable, Hurley recalls how he almost died in one of the traps Danielle Rousseau set. Recall that in that episode, Hurley took on a superman persona and seemed to be invincible, taking reckless risks.
Before Penny, Desmond had been engaged to another girl.
If Kate has chosen Sawyer, then why does she have spite sex with him after seeing Jack with Juliet?
Could Jack be totally on to Juliet? Maybe he knows she is evil and he is playing her. I know this is unlikely but sure would make a nice plot twist.
See Jin. See Jin telling the classic campfire story of the hook man. In Korean! Classic!

Q

The LOST Report
My Serious, Logical Thoughts on D.O.C.
Greetings and welcome to the LOST report. This is the review of D.O.C. This is not the only episode that had a three letter title. There was SOS.
TITLE
Refers to date of conception. Very important since Juliet believes that if the baby is conceived on the island then you are a goner. And the father is
Jin! And you thought it was going to be that other guy. You know the one I mean. Larry Birkhead. Anyway, now Sun has only two months to live, but she has the satisfaction of knowing the father is Jin.
ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS?
In this episode, we learn that Sun has indeed met the father of Jin and also his mother. But his mother is a prostitute and Jin believes she is dead. I cringed when Sun paid out the money. But why did she asks for the amount in dollars? Would it not have been more logical for her to ask for it in South Korean Wons? Notice that the father of Sun happens to have 100,000 nearby. Also notice that the office of the father of Sun is different from that last time we saw him talking to Jin in his office. How many offices does this guy have?
DAWN OF THE MIKAIL
Ok, so how is Mikail alive? Did we not see him get killed by the sonic weapon? Well, for those of you thinking he was suddenly cloned - no. The answer comes from Mikail himself. While working on the multilingual woman, he says that wounds are different on the island referring to the speed at which she will heal. That means that Mikail actually recovered from his wounds and was not actually dead but only appeared dead. Take Nikki and Paulo for example. They looked dead and fooled everybody but really were not. Also, consider that we really know very little about the sonic weapon. How it works and what exactly it does are a mystery. Although they examined the body of Mikail and said he died from an aneurism. That obviously did not happen. It also explains why Mikail showed no fear in dying and even said thank you to Locke for pushing him into the weapon. Does this mean that Bea will also be found alive? What about Ethan? If they had not have buried him, would he also have survived? How far does the healing power of the island go?
YOU STARTED IT
The remark that Desmond made that the LOSTaways killed more of the others than they have killed of them is unwarranted. The first casualty in the war was either caused by the others when Ethan killed Scott Jackson or perhaps when one of the tailies killed one of the others. Here is the casualty report from the war:
LOSTaway deaths caused by the others:
Scott Jackson
Guy Goodwin killed because he was a bad man
THE OTHERS deaths caused by LOSTaways
Ethan Rom
Three unnamed people killed by tailies
Goodwin
Unnamed man killed by Sawyer (see season two finale)
Woman shot by Sun
(honorably mention: Bea, killed by Mikail after Locke took her prisoner. If she is dead.)
THE OTHERS lives saved by LOSTaways
Ben
So Desmond was quite correct in saying that the LOSTaways have killed more. The score is LOSTaways 7 THE OTHERS 2.
THEY ARE ALL DEAD?
The multilingual woman said that they found the plane of flight 815 and everyone was dead. Now, doubtless this will bring back the old theory that they are all dead and perhaps stuck in purgatory or something, which was a really popular theory for a while until they came out and said it was wrong. I even saw a skit about it on Saturday Night Live. Let me allay your fears. Here is what happened: THE OTHERS took pieces of the plane and put them in the water far from the island where they knew the search teams would find them. Remember they had a sub! Having found pieces of the plane, the search teams concluded that the plane had exploded and thus were unable to recover any bodies. This is a more plausible explanation I think than saying that The LOSTaways are from another dimension or traveled through time or were involved in a transporter accident. (think Will Riker and Thomas Riker from Star Trek Tng). By the way, they did not detect the black box because the rescue teams were looking in the wrong place as was mentioned in the pilot episode. I believe the pilot said they were 1000 miles off course.
The only thing is why the others would do this. To keep them all on the island so they could experiment on their pregnant women. They had to keep the men to, to impregnate the females but also if one of them got off the island they might get all of them rescued. Finding the plane stopped the search.
Another idea is that only the idea was passed on that the rescuers had found the plane but in fact they had not. But this probably would require a large conspiracy to pull off.
OTHER RAMBLINGS
The mysterious multilingual woman is played by the same actress who used to be on the TV show Las Vegas.
Mikail came running up to the LOSTaways because of the flare gun Hurley lit off. THE OTHERS may also use flares and so he thought it was one of his own.
Did the woman really say thank you to Mikail in another language? She might have said Eu nao estou sozinho. That means I am not alone. So other people were on the helicopter. That makes a lot of sense.
At the beginning of this episode, Sun is working in the garden and she hears rustling in the bushes which startles her, but it turns out to be only Jack. This plot device has been used numerous times in LOST. How many times have you seen a scene where someone heard something moving around in the bushes?
Jin fought Mikail but got beat. Jin is no stranger to fighting as we saw him beat up a man while working for the father of Sun.
We know that Jin is a proud man because he lied about his own father. That was a strong motivator for Sun to pay the money to spare Jin the shame.
Is Kate Pregnant? On the tape recorder, Juliet says she will get samples from Austen and the other women. Since she said other women, and they are not all pregnant, it may not necessarily be so that Kate is pregnant. Juliet may just be taking samples of all the women.
As I predicted, it is looking more and more like Juliet is not evil as she says to Ben I hate you on the tape recorder. Juliet is more a victim of circumstance. She wants to go home and does not want to be part of the plans of Ben. Perhaps the only way off the island for her is to solve the pregnancy problem and so she persists in that hope. By the way, when she slept with Goodwin, did they use a condom? As pregnant women die on the island, it would have been really risky for their only fertility doctor to be having unprotected sex.
They leave the lights on in the hatch. That seems very wasteful as I would think electricity would be hard to come by on the island.
WILD TANGENT
That woman sure speaks a lot of languages: Italian, Chinese, Spanish not to mention the Portuguese book she came with. Here is a joke: If you speak three languages, you are trilingual, if you speak two languages you are bilingual, if you speak one language, you are American.
