It sometimes snows here in the valley, but not enough to ever stick. Mt. Charleston has a ski resort, and if I want to play in the snow, I can go there...it's 17 miles from here.
The wind chill is the big thing here. Because of the configuration of the Valley, wind has a tendency to get "trapped" and can blow for days. Close to the end of that time, people get really stupid and the static electricity makes touching anything an exercise in junior science. "Watch Mr. Wizard" would be a good show, here!
Sometimes, the wind can blow at 40 miles an hour (sustained) and it can be 25 degrees out. You KNOW the wind chill is going to be nasty...around -24. *Br-r-r-r-r!*

BUSY as H until about midnight last night. i finally got "close & personal with my pillow" about 2AM.
459 miles in about 6.5 hours is a LONG drive. BUT i HAD to get home to do other "pressing matters".

"Sometimes, the wind can blow at 40 miles an hour (sustained) and it can be 25 degrees out. You KNOW the wind chill is going to be nasty...around -24. *Br-r-r-r-r!*" Just your description would make me want to find a bear's den and curl up beside the bear.

Just got this awful groaner in my e-mail, so I thought I'd inflict it on someone else:
How Poetic
A dreary dreamy young poet
Sailed off to a South Sea isle.
He met a girl named Laura
Who bewitched him with her smile.
Often she would dance for him.
He and she were pals.
But no one ever told him
That she was a cannibal gal.
One fine day she ate him -
'Tis sad to tell of his fate.
How hard to be remembered
As the poet Laura-ate.
["Burna Shave" seems like the appropriate last line ending]

In some of the nastier winters here, I've been known to wear thermal underwear, two pairs of socks, two sweaters, and a jacket IN THE HOUSE!
I have an electric mattress pad and flannel sheets and a down comforter. I can put on enough to almost be warm!

Earth sheltered housing comes to mind. If ever I build a house, a sizable component of it will be underground.
Another thing to consider is that with that reliable a source of wind, capturing its energy would appear to make sense.
I wonder if anyone makes a wind-driven heat pump?

Actually, we're beginning to cool off, now. It's supposed to be 95 today, with a slight breeze, and that's a little too cool for me. I'll have to go to the storage unit and get some warm clothes...;o] And my down comforter...

We have 62 for a high, but it only feels like it in the sun.
When it's out.
