Trouble is, IIRC, his parents also offered an alibi -- a different one. Ex-wife said he spent Christmas 1996 in Alabama with her. His parents said he spent Christmas 1996 in Georgia with them. I didn't particularly trust people who could have raised or married this sicko.
The parents were probably covering for him. His ex-wife knows what type of monster he is, but she also knew that telling the truth would deny him the media circus that he obviously craves. This was going to be something that could have been verified either way.
