He was leaving Thailand no matter what on the California charges. Then out of the blue, he confessed to Ramsey. The only logical conclusion is that he's not only a sick, demented POS, he's also a sick, demented POS who craves attention.
I don't think he wanted to get out of Thailand. Why would he? He had just landed a teaching job, was getting prepped for a sex change, and was living his perverted lifestyle in a country that would let him do so without a blink.
I think one of two things are the case here.
First, he was involved with her murder and he got caught.
Second, he believes he was involved in her murder and he thinks he got caught.
