I doubt anyone who really was affected by the plane crash was watching the Emmy Awards. If they were offended by the Lost deal, I would hope they wouldn't have taken it personally and thought the whole world should stop for them.
You never know. The Emmy's came on right after a recap of the news so perhaps a lot of folks in the area had left the tube on. If I were the one making the decision (and it's easy from where I sit, of course) I would have opted to go with something else. But that's just me and that's the reason why I said someone dropped the ball.

While I sympathize with those who lost loved ones on Comair, my question is this: just how many "openings" have to be filmed to cover any eventuality that may occur before a show of this type is aired? And how would they segue from the pretaped part to the live show? What script would be used? I'm just turning the question around.
