School mistakes huge burrito for weapon, goes into lockdown

Updated: 7:43 p.m. ET April 29, 2005

CLOVIS, N.M. - A call about a possible weapon at a middle school prompted police to put armed officers on rooftops, close nearby streets and lock down the school. All over a giant burrito.

Someone called authorities Thursday after seeing a boy carrying something long and wrapped into Marshall Junior High.

The drama ended two hours later when the suspicious item was identified as a 30-inch burrito filled with steak, guacamole, lettuce, salsa and jalapeños and wrapped inside tin foil and a white T-shirt.

"I didn't know whether to laugh or cry," school Principal Diana Russell said.

State police, Clovis police and the Curry County Sheriff's Department arrived at the school shortly after 8:30 a.m. They searched the premises and determined there was no immediate danger.

Are you referring to the burrito itself or the after-effects?

When burritos are outlawed only outlaws will have burritos!

They can have my burrito when they pry it from my cold dead fingers!

Lockdowns are for jails.

Don't these kids deserve a trial before being incarcerated?

Don't middle school kids have more important things to learn than commercial advertising?

Advertising is a part of marketing which is tied to Economics; something which should be manadatory in school. Besides, isn't an advertising class more cerebral than Contraception 101?

Actually one I had lead to a case of salmonella. So in that instance both the burrito itself and the after effects could have been legally classified as bio-weapons.

Ugh. Unpleasant.

But on a more pleasant subject, the missus and I and the owners of Idaho Knife Works went to hear Ted Nugent this last weekend up at the Silver Mountain Resort.

Wow! He's a madman, but he's our kind of madman. A real American. He hit the stage full tilt and guns up and didn't let up for a minute. Haven't had that much fun in a while.

I've seen the Motor City Madman twice in my life. Once way back when he was still with the Amboy Dukes a friend and I got a hold of some fake IDs and saw him in a crummy dive bar in Elgin IL.

He ended the show by shooting flaming arrows at his amps.

The second time was right after the Ted Nugent album came out. My ears rang for days after that show.

I try to catch his "Call Of The Wild" tv show when I can. He sure is one of the good guys.

On another subject, the Ishy Enfields are back. AIMsurplus has got 'em. It's a toss up between another one of those and the alloy Browning Hi Powers they've got in stock.

Decisions decisions.
