In Florida, It's Charlie Crist for Governor

Voting in Florida's primary election begins today with the start of early voting – and will culminate on Sept. 5 with the actual ballot vote.

As Florida voters take to the ballot box, NewsMax strongly endorses Florida Attorney General Charlie Crist for the Republican nomination for governor.

Simply put, we believe he's the more qualified candidate and the one most likely to keep the governor's post in GOP hands come November. While Crist's opponent in the primary, chief financial officer Tom Gallagher, is an able candidate and a conservative, Crist's solid record on crime, education, and taxes (he opposes them) makes him the "Reagan conservative" – our choice for the GOP nod.

Throughout his career Crist has been a fighter for innovative, positive change. As a state senator, Crist fought for and passed the STOP (Stop Turning Out Prisoners) legislation that required prisoners to serve at least 85 percent of their sentences.

He also co-sponsored legislation to implement the charter schools bill, which gives parents the freedom to pick the best schools for their children.

As commissioner of education, Crist supported early reading programs to better prepare children to read at grade level when they enter school. As attorney general, Crist helped draft and worked to pass tougher price gouging and looting laws, supported stronger penalties for identity thieves, and spearheaded landmark legislation requiring prescription drugs to be tracked from the manufacturer to the pharmacy to ensure drug safety.

He also created an innovative program to aid victims of domestic violence, and was named the Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence's 2005 Advocate of the Year. He has vowed that as governor, he will promote business in Florida and appoint conservative, not activist, judges to the courts. Despite Gallagher's claims to the contrary, Crist is solidly pro-life and supports a constitutional amendment to define marriage as being between a man and a woman.

Significantly, polls have consistently showed that Crist is the stronger GOP candidate, and he would fare better against either of his Democratic rivals, Rep. Jim Davis and State Sen. Rod Smith, in the general election to replace outgoing Gov. Jeb Bush.

One recent poll revealed that in a head-to-head match-up, Crist outpolled Davis 48 percent to 32 percent, compared to Gallagher's margin of 41 to 38. Against Smith, Crist won by 18 percentage points; Gallagher led by only 10.

Crist has also won an impressive list of endorsements. Recently Sen. John McCain expressed his support for Crist, as did the National Rifle Association, whose past president Marion Hammer said "no one has been stronger" than Crist in support of Second Amendment, self-defense and anti-crime issues.

Other endorsements have come from Sen. Mel Martinez, Congressmen Mario Diaz-Balart and Jeff Miller, the Police Benevolent Association, the Fraternal Order of Police, the Florida Association of State Troopers, the Cuban American Veterans Association and the Florida Nurses Association, as well as 46 members of the Florida legislature and 28 county sheriffs.

Gov. Jeb Bush promised to remain neutral in the race and has not endorsed a candidate. But NewsMax believes Charlie Crist is the best candidate to continue Gov. Bush's legacy in Tallahassee and keep Florida among the most prosperous states in the Union.

I can appreciate NewsMax's opinion, even if they don't live in FL. No matter, I'll send another donation to Tom Gallagher, and Katherine Harris. Kinda like when I see a PETA article on FR, I slaughter another lamb for the barbie.

From what I understand,

Crist is against gun control. His stickers were at the gun show, and his supporters. Gallager's supporters were absent, for a reason.

Also, just as important, Crist was against the Terri vegetable 15 year thing.

Gallager was for it. A vegetable cheerleader. Yay, carrots!

Enough for me. And enough for the majority of Floridians who will vote Crist into the Governorship.

Terri says, "ung."

You're joking right? Her husband fought like crazy for money to "rehabilitate" (admittedly impossible) and then as soon as he got it, after seven years, he said he now "remembered" that Terri would have wanted to die in that situation. Why? Because he'd moved on, had kids with another woman and wanted the money for himself.

She had no living will, her parents wanted her to live, the only court appointed guardian recommended letting her live, and two nurses went to the police in the late 90s about Schiavo injecting her with insuline, yet Judge Greer didn't believe them because they hadn't come to his court until much later (never mind that they risked their careers over it years before - nothing like selective findings).

And whatever you say, starving and dehydrating a woman is sick, and even those who say "ugh" as you so beautifully pointed out can feel pain.

Are you pro-gay adoption, huge spending ($5,000 each year per adoptive child) and pro-civil unions too? Are you pro-dishonest people who yell "I'm pro-life" while being against overturning Roe v Wade?

I'm definitely NOT "pro life," and Crist is our next Governor.

Crist for Gov??

Please tell me you're not for civil unions, politicians like Crist who support them saying "I have an open mind and a 'live and let live attitude."

Crist is also a liar who makes reckless spending promises. He knows full well that $5,000 per child, per year for every adoptive couple would never pass. People are waking up and they won't elect him. Please vote Gallagher who's been consistant for years and is gaining support with increased exposure.

At least you, unlike Crist, have the honesty to admit that you're not pro-life. Crist has been shown to be a liar and this turns people off.

He won't be our next governor. If he somehow gets the nomination, and he won't because the base has just said bye bye, the liberals will attack him because of his outrageous lies and habitof saying one thing one day and another the next. He does this more than they do and much more blatantly. But that's not really why he'd lose. He'd lose because if he somehow pulls off a primary win most of the base is already looking at Ind. Max Linn as a plan B. We don't need 2 Dem Parties. That's why we don't need Crist.

Crist would also raise taxes. He'd have to to support his crazy initiatives.

If he takes money from Gays and Lesbians, then he is gay ... that's all there is to it.

If he takes money from a woman, does that make him a woman? If he takes money from a Union man, does it mean he's joined a Union? If he takes money from a stupid person, does it make him stupid? Is there any logic whatsoever to what you said??????

Math must be your god. Not everything that is true is logical. Do you love yourself or anyone? Is that logical?

Anyway, if he takes money from gays, and supports the gay agenda of civil unions ... that's pretty gay! ... logical or not.

It's so funny to see people grope for logic. Logic is such a small god.
