I think I completely misunderestimated this forum.

In my simplistic view of the world, FR = patriotic freedom loving Americans, many of whom come from a military background.

Probably accurate.

My fundamental mistake was in concluding this meant freedom from strictly enforced helmet laws, freedom from strictly enforced seatbelt laws, freedom from money-grubbing lawyer driven meddlesome nanny state goverment, freedom to live how one chooses, and (horror of horrors) freedom to have fun.

Nowhere did I even HINT at any excusing of pedophilia.

I oppose that 100%, as does any reasonable person.

What I find so intriguing about Thailand is they've managed to thrive as a society for so much longer than America has even existed, and have somehow resisted the spiral into ever more regulations and laws - which threatens to digest what used to be our freedoms, from the inside. Like some societal Ebola virus. All for the sickeningly dishonest mantra "if even one life could be saved".

WE ARE LOSING OUR FREEDOMS.

Nobody really seems to give a hoot - as long as the freedoms we lose are the ones their side wants to eliminate.

So it goes. For eight years one side governs, and systematically eliminates one set of freedoms.

The following eight years, the other side governs. Of course we don't get any of the freedoms we lost the previous eight years back. But sure as the sun rises every morning in the east - we lose a new bunch, a little more every day.

This continues, without pause.

We have who, elected, representing our interests in Washington?

I'll have to call BS on that one. Link those threads that celebrated the tsunami hitting Phuket! I don't recall them. I was on a few. I posted a few of the threads myself. Hey maybe I missed all of the posts but the 90% that I read were sorrowful. Oh yeah, almost forgot to mention that private donations were in the millions from us.

Logical fallacy: I haven't personally been to Syria but I can tell you Assad is a nut. I haven't personally met the Iranian leader but I can tell you he's antisemitic and a bit looney. Should I withhold such judgments because I haven't seen, felt, heard, or tasted the behaviors of Thailand? BTW, I have friends that taught and did missionary work in Bangkok and with the Karen. Did you know some of the Karen have converted to sabbatarian christianity? I did. Also Queen Sirikit has graciously spoke to my university on several occasions about her country's trials and tribulations in drug production and drug abuse. Has she ever spoken to you personally?

I mean if the guy's refreshed by certain libertarian views held by Thais...and one of the great hallmarks of libertarianism is abolition of drug laws and age of consent...it's not a stretch, particularly when the first few graphs talk about pedophilia.
