That's great, IF Jose & raul are willing to stop raping your kid for a couple minutes while you turn on the light and try to read the tumbler for the right combo. Oh, wait a second, your glasses are in the study.
Jose, can you give me another 45 seconds, please, I need to go get my glasses so I can see this lock and undo it so i can protect my kid you are raping.

Rule of thumb is...if you have to remember 3 things to protect yourself from an attacker, you may as well consider yourself down!
1. Oh shit, I'm under attack...get the gun
2. What is the combination to this lock
3. cock the gun to load the chamber or turn off the safety or load the gun
4. take aim...too late, the criminal has already accomplished his original intent!
What good is a gun as protection if it isn't loaded and accessible?

I see... so you don't believe in only practicing how to shoot your weapon, not in how to get to it quickly when it is locked.
Get a grip. There are products on the market for just these situations..
From the way you make it sound.. you'd shoot yourself in the damned foot or accidentally shoot your kid before making any kind of effective offense.
I used to keep mine disassembled and unloaded... let's see.. hear noise, reattach barrel, then the slide, insert magazine.. load. ...in the dark.
but then maybe that is just too much preparation for you.
If you are too much of a dumb ass to be able to operate a combo lock in the dark, blind, then what the hell business do you have attempting to use your gun?
Do yourself a favor.. get yourself one of those nifty little safes that is large enough for a decent semi-auto. You basically slap your hand on it and (oh freaking shock!) you have to remember which five buttons to press to open it.
Practice that a few times just like you practice shooting at the range (and I sure as hell hope you do) and you'll be able to open it in your sleep.
But then, it is prolly still easier for you to just fire blindly into the night, having not idea of what in the hell you are doing.
