If he was a transient/just passing through, how would there be proof? If he was a transient just passing through Boulder, these questions become even more difficult to answer:
_ How did he even know about the girl? _ How did he know the details of the Ramseys' personal life contained in the ransom note? The note, by the way, was written on paper from the Ramsey home.
_ How did he know where to find the girl's room in that rambling house?
_ How did he find the paint brush used to make the garrot? According to information published at the time and since, the paint brush came from inside the house.
_ How did he know to take the girl's body from the bedroom upstairs to that small room way down in the back of the basement?
Everything we in the public know about the case leads to the conclusion that someone connected to the family, not a total stranger, killed that child. If there is some prior connection between Karr and the Ramseys -- if, for example, he had done some work for them, or perhaps attended some of the beauty pagents JonBenet was in -- then he becomes a more plausible suspect.

I agree, this guy had to know the Ramsey's even if they didn't know him.

Profilers and speculators depend on the target case not being the exception to the rule.
I can think of only on child murder case in which an upper/upper middle class professional married couple were even suspects. In fact any married couple with no proven risk factors like alcholism, history of child abuse, history of sex crimes, insurance/monetary motive, divorce, ongoing affair or marital difficulties.
DNA would be nice but not needed in this case.
Assuming he can be placed in Boulder on the night in question or can not be placed elsewhere-
Samples of his hand writing matching (particularly if they pre date the murder)
Knowledge of facts about the case that even the most diligent researcher could not know.
A receipt from a Boulder store for a stungun dated 2 days before the murder with his credit card number might do it.

To all your questions: Is is possible (oh, hell, this is the Ramsey case, nothing's impossible!) that he was in the house while they were at the party?

I'd like to know why a guy who lived in AL with his family happened to shop for black duct tape at McGuckin's Hardware store in Boulder or managed to get a roll from that same Shurtape shipment from October/November 1996.

I agree. This wasn't planned because everything the killer used or had knowlege of was found within the home or had to have come directly from close personal knowlege of the family.
