Karr and his family moved from Alabama to a suburb of Atlanta. The Ramsey family is not saying if, or how they knew the man arrested for killing their daughter. But they lived in an Atlanta suburb, not far from Karr's home in the area. The Ramseys moved to Boulder Colorado in 1991. So, essentially, JBR was an infant, no older than a year old when the Ramseys moved out of state. There's no way I can conceive that Karr - if he even knew JBR in Georgia - could have developed any emotional bond to her except by repeated personal contact with her (such as day care). And if he was never in Colorado before Christmas 1996, there's no possible way he could have developed any sort of attachment to her any other way than through the pageant scene or internet images.
She would have been just another baby while they were both in Georgia. There *has* to be a reason he travelled all that distance to be there in Boulder if he did commit the crime and I would argue he must have known who she was, how to find her and knew he'd have access to her in order to make such a long trip.
The whole scenario is getting entirely implausible unless he felt in some way assured he would see her. Otherwise, you are talking about a random act and Karr does not talk about this as a random act.

I don't claim to know anything much about either this particular case or the M.O. of such scumbags in general, but isn't it possible that Karr developed his real obsession and "love" (gag) after the murder and not before? Perhaps it was originally a "crime of opportunity" for a pedophile who happened to be in her neighborhood or at her family's holiday party, heard about her and her parents, etc. and then later he became ever more obsessed as he dwelled upon the press coverage etc.
I don't begin to know whether that scenario could account for how he was in Boulder (if he was), how he came to be near the Ramseys (if he ever was), how he came to write the "ransom" note (if he did), etc. I'm just wondering whether he might have done the dastardly deed first and developed the full-blown obsession afterwards? [but I will yield to everyone whose knowledge of the details of this case is greater than mine, which probably means everyone on this thread]
