The Austin High School Art teacher at the center of a national controversy over topless photos of her that were published on-line is resigning from the school district. In a statement on her web site on MySpace.com, Tamara Hoover says she is settling out of court with AISD and stepping down from her position. The school board had upheld Hoover's termination after they found out that her friend, photographer Celesta Danger, had posted topless photos of her on-line. Hoover vowed to appeal that decision, but writes on her web site that the high cost of the continuing legal challenge played a role in her decision to resign. Hoover plans to go to graduate school and hopes to teach at the university level. AISD's Board of Trustees has not yet officially approved the settlement. That decision could come at next Monday's board meeting.

Where were the teachers like this when I was in school? They all weighed about 250lb had hair on their face, and were over 60.

I heard yesterday on the radio that it was settled or at least to the dotting of the "i" point. The school (taxpayers) will pay off her contract of $15k and everyone will go their own way. I understand the school is thinking if she did sue, they'd be out much more than $15k in legal fees. However, I don't see why they can't just kick her out on her fanny without a dime because she violated the morals clause in her contract.

Think of what could be used with that $15k. They could hire another English as a Second Language teacher!

at austin high, that assumption is a very high one considering that hispanics cover i think 70% of the school pop.

Not to pick nits, but $15K will only get you half of an English as a Second Language teacher.

Or if they could avoid being out any money by not firing her.
