As to how he got in...it is possible he had sneaked in an open door earlier and was hidden away until they went to bed. This may not have been the first time he was in the house...as I recall the family travelled a lot. He could have had a lot of time to familiarize himself with those items, including bank records, check stubs or a letter revealing the amount of the bonus.

I have had the same thought about the killer for many years. Given the way JonBenet was killed, I find it hard to believe the parents did it. It does seem though that the perp had a great deal of knowledge about the family and Jonbenet. It is possible that the killer was fixated on her and had been coming and going from the house for sometime. It would be interesting to check into the profile of stalkers who murder and see what the common traits are.
