Inquiring minds want to know: Did Red Sox TV guys Don Orsillo and Jerry Remy catch some heat from their NESN bosses for letting Rescue Me stars Denis Leary and Lenny Clarke go wild in the broadcast booth Tuesday night? The FX funnymen, who were on the air to promote Learys Firefighters Foundation, went on a hilarious three-minute rant about Sox first baseman Kevin Youkilis, who is Jewish, and Mel Gibson, who checked into rehab after a drunken, anti-Semitic tirade.
Although Orsillo and Remy completely lost it, laughing uncontrollably during the boys diatribe, at the end of the bit Clarke and Leary feared they had gone too far, asking Are we in trouble?
And yesterday afternoon NESN ordered the ever-popular YouTube Web site to remove the Leary-Clarke highlights, saying the clip was used without permission.
It just got out of hand, we were laughing so hard, Clarke told the Track yesterday. But I saw (Sox owner) John Henry afterwards and he said, You guys were hysterical.
The hijinks started innocently enough with Leary asking if Youk, nicknamed The Greek God of Walks in the bestseller Moneyball was, indeed Greek. When Denis was informed that Kevin was Jewish, the comedians took off with a hit and run.
Wheres Mel Gibson now? Wheres Mel Gibson now? Hes in rehab and Youkilis is at first base! You happy, Braveheart? bellowed Leary.
Added Clarke: I hope Mel Gibson doesnt come into this park. Well ridehim outta here on a rail!
After No. 20 made a couple of nifty plays things really got out of control.
I hope in rehab theyre showing the replay of that, Leary railed. The Jewish first baseman makes the play, Mel Gibson. Good luck when you come out . . . Call (DreamWorks honcho) Jeffrey Katzenberg for a job . . . Braveheart, my ass.
At that point it appeared as though Orsillo was getting some flack from the control booth in his earpiece. He abruptly wrestled the microphone away from Leary, and Denis and Clarke began to say Were in trouble . . .
Thats what it looked like to me, Clarke said yesterday, But it was too late to turn back.
According to Sox spokesman John Blake, Orsillo and RemDawg were not reprimanded for letting the Rescue Me duo use Mad Mel for batting practice.
As for Leary and Clarke, we can tell you that the funnymen were at Embassy on Lansdowne Street for a meet-and-greet for donors to Denis foundation prior to their appearance in the broadcast booth.
But we have no idea if that had anything to do with the mishegas!

This was hysterical. Remy and Orsello were laughing so hard they couldn't talk....
They are both very funny. Remy and Orsillo are pretty funny anyways, but you add those too goofs and it has to get out of control.
I missed their appearance with Joe & Jerry on the radio, though. I switched to the radio when I saw they were in the WEEI booth, but was interrupted by a phone call...
And I admire Leary's work for the fire fighters.
Yes, Leary's cousin, a Worcester firefighter, was killed in the warehouse fire back in '99
firehouse.com:
>>Comedian Denis Leary returned to his hometown on Thursday to promote a benefit that will honor six firefighters who died in a December 1999 warehouse fire. A cousin of Leary's, Jeremiah Lucey, was one of the men killed in the blaze.
I saw this, thought it was in acceptable taste, as well as being funny.
They were pretty funny even before they got into the Mel Gibson rant.
Their timing, rhythm and feel reminded me a bit of Abbot and Costello - quick zingers - one after another - good stuff.
Especially when they got into saying - and this team - it's got a Jew on first base - how can one not think of Who's on First? I guess what they were really doing was "Jew's on First" LOL.
We have tix to two LA Angels vs Red Sox games in Anaheim, and plan to again visit Sonny McLean's pub - west coast home of Red Sox Nation.
Take care and GO RED SOX! :o)
Hilarious!! :)
I saw it live and it was great TV -Jerry and Don were almost hysterical. It would have been better had the Sox won the game, though....
Lenny Clarke....used to see him on TV a lot. He's Ding Ho veteran. Any update on him?
Out-Freeping-Standing.
Little chicken wang is going to have a bad day at Fenway.
He has a part on Rescue Me.
Thanks. I liked him back in the early 90s when he hosted a comedy hour on Fox I think
Thanks for the link. A shame that the site hosting it is such a bunch of moonbats!
Denis & Lenny were at their absolute funniest. Orsillo and Remdawg never had a chance!
