There was a show on Court TV a week or so ago on this case. The ME determined that the ligature marks were post-mortem and were done to cover up or confuse the real cause of death, which was blunt force trauma.

Not so about the ligature marks at all. She died of asphyxiation, associated with cerebral trauma.
