The media, as usual, is irresponsible. They don't have an interest in the story as much as they do for creating a titillating or otherwise intriguing innuendo. That's what gets people to tune in, whether we like it or not.
All the attention for Natalie Holloway, for example, hinged on the sexy story of an attractive blonde on vacation who meets a guy she is attracted to and (maybe for the first time ever) threw caution to the wind. Then she ends up missing - presumed dead. Sex sells, innuendo sells, etc.
How about that honeymooning couple on a cruise. Part of the hook of that story was that the newlywed wife may have paired off with some other guy the night her hubby went missing/murdered. Sexy! People tune in.
The truth may or may not have anything to do with the innuendo, but it's the innuendo that sells, and it damages people's lives.
