Of course the authorities start close to home. In this case, minds were made up and the Ramseys have been put through a double hell for 10 years.
I remember the nastiness as clear as if it was yesterday.
Lou Smits (?sp) went from being a really great detective to one on the fringe when his opinion changed.
Not many people were willing to consider other suspects.
Damn! 800 posts and I was on the first thread I saw - it died before 150 posts. I've just been sitting there with the info I had found, refreshing. I'll never catch up on this one.
I remember one tabloid TV show said that Mr. Ramsey was running some secret satanic child sex slave ring.
I never did follow this case closely enough to have an informed opinion. But it seems as though the Ramseys were never cleared. Of course that is going to lead to speculation.
It may not have been very nice because the odd thing does occur where the parents are blameless. Unfortunately, it sounds like the investigation was so botched that no conclusion could be made. After all this time, I'm not sure people can be convinced to change their minds.
