I was drawn to this comment by Lawrence Schiller who I consider to be an expert on this case. He said this suspect was known to the police before and :

Among the facts he said were not generally known was the murder weapon and what the killer did with it.

You mean what he used to bash her skull in? That blow was post mortem and it is widely believed to be the kind of flashlight Cops use to hit people over the head with. I like Schiller too.
