I'll give you some Oregon stops on the Highway.
1) Oceanside/Netarts loop. Beautiful views of Big Blue.
2) Manzanita
3) Cannon Beach/Haystack Rock
4) Newport - must eat at Moe's on the Bay
There are four stops in Oregon for you. FReemail me for more ideas.

Gee Mike, I'll wear my love beads. I just knew I'd get this kind of stuff from FReepers. I really thought twice before asking for help knowing I was just a sitting duck. Uh Oh, now the sitting duck pics are going to come. OH gosh.

There's a seal cave somewhere near the aquarium in Newport, OR (I think). It's a short stop and well worth it.

Redwood Forest, Crescent City, Cal...go to the Stout Grove...unpaved road but FABULOUS National Park Scenery!! Cannon Beach, Oregon to see Haystack rock...hopefully at low tide when you can walk up to the 3rd largest monolith in the world and see all the sea stars and other fish life clinging til the tide comes in again!! Seaside, Oregon..end of Lewis and Clark trail.
In Seattle take a ferry ride to Bainbridge and back....take a ride on the Ducks...go up to Kerry Park to the most fabulous view of Seattle!! Too bad you only have a week!!

I might add to the recommended Oregon Stops:
Bandon for the beach rocks.
Gold Beach for the Wild Rogue River (a river jet boat ride is worth your half or full day)
There a lot of very good seafood places but "The Sea Hag" at Depoe Bay is a dandy lunch stop right in the middle of some of the most scenic coastline.

I just knew I'd get this kind of stuff from FReepers. Mostly from people who have never been west of the Rockies...or who went to Atlanta once when they were 19 and think they've seen it all. ;)

Get off the road in Humboldt County and hike into the marijuana forest. It's second only to the Redwood Forest.
There's a cool aquarium in Eureka, and an awesome graveyard in Arcata. 10 minute stop there, but a Kodak Moment looking out over the coastline.

1. Don't sleep out on the beaches. IIRC, there's still an unsolved murder
of a young couple murdered a beach in Northern Califonia, as seen on
"America's Most Wanted".
2. Just cruise past Seattle and go to Vancouver. Just hit Seattle on the way back.
It was a real screw-up that we didn't sign a treaty with the British until
we got that spot of earth.
OK, maybe I was over the top. But I just like Vancouver better as the
scenery is a bit more breathtaking and maybe the town is a little cleaner.
Well, except for the marijuana district know as "Gas Town" (or something
like that).

When you get to Florence, OR (on the OR coast 60 miles west of Eugene) have lunch or dinner at the Bridgewater Restaurant (old part of town). Had lunch there last week ... excellent.

Yes...Going north, after Mendocino and on up through Humbolt County. Drive-through redwood tree, "world's tallest" tree etc. Definitely worth getting off the highway to see.
