"A six cylindar motor on a car that size is overkill."
Yeah, but it sure moved down the road!! Or at least it did til my husband hit a cow. Then we bought a Chevy.
First time I ever took a car to a Jiffy Lube they did something wrong with the transmission. I drove out of the place and onto a highway entrance ramp and then discovered my car was stuck in first gear. I drove it back and complained, then overheard the manager asking the other worker what exactly he did. I think I remember the line "That's not a dipstick" somewhere in there.
They took the car to a transmission place to get it fixed, and paid the bill (which I noticed on the desk when I picked up the car a week later). Glad I didn't have to fork out the $400 it cost to fix the transmission, but it was still irksome being without the car for a week.
In fact, that's his usual sort of service at his garage. Small town mechanics won't cheat you. They need all the business they can get.
In some cars the dipstick is behind the wheel!
I've never used Juffy Lube, but have had good experience with Valvoline's services. Of course, they want to sell you all kinds of crap like the "engine flush", etc., but if you stick with the oil change deal - and maybe the air filter - you're OK. My ex was sold on transmission service at a Jiffy Lube and they put the wrong fluid in it and ruined the transmission. Between Dodge and Jiffy Lube the problem was corrected at no expense to her, but I understand there's a lot of that at Jiffy Lube. As for doing it myself, I wouldn't get even get that dirty for $40. Also, I know what I'm good at and that ain't it.
