And being drunk does not help one be prepared.

So are you advocating no alcohol for any service member, because they might not be "prepared"? Personal opinion from a marine vet, and a former heavy drinker. Someone is old enough to lay their life on the line for people that make dumb-a$$ rules and complain about other peoples behavior, even when they are not doing anything wrong, deserve to have a drink, or smoke, whenever it is allowable. In fact, I have an open bar policy to any service member, regardless of age in my house.

IMHO, one of the worst thing that ever happened was when the Clintoon DoD went over board on the alcohol reeducation of the military. It got so bad that I saw units that would not even allow alcohol at company functions, like picnics and feild days. Treating grown men, and women, who could die any day in the defense of their country as though are irresponsible adolescents is not a way engender good esprit de corps.

Putting a three drink limit on the e-club (as I take it has happened on at least one installation) is simply assinine. Those who normally drink on base and stumble happily back to their barracks/squad bay/berthing area, will now go off base to partake. There is a better chance that they will drink and drive, or be with someone who is drinking and driving.

No, that's not what I said.

Someone is old enough to lay their life on the line for people that make dumb-a$$ rules and complain about other peoples behavior, even when they are not doing anything wrong, deserve to have a drink, or smoke, whenever it is allowable.

That was my point. I never said NONE.
