It's not a 'PC' thing at all. Our kids are just not into the whole party-til-you-puke like we were when we were their age.

My kid has almost three years of intense training, including winning the Provost Award at DLI, and completing SERE training. And could beat the hell out of you.

Instead of a parachute she has an axe to destroy her equipment as they go down.

Calling kids like that candyass because they don't get fall-down drunk and smoke camels makes you look like a jackass.

Good day.

no honey, i am not attacking the military. i am pointing out that the military that i love and grew up in, is being dismantled by a bunch of pc desk jockeys.

I'm not your honey, and you have no idea of the real damage currently being caused by the PC crowd. I still have friends "pushing paper", and I hear things too. At least your heart seems to be in the right place, but blogging about it won't change anything. You have to get off the computer and get involved.

BTW, AMCS (Ret). Yeah, I pushed some paper in my day. But I also spent over 4000 days at sea and I got too old at the end to hump 18 lb chains up and down the flight deck all day.

Yes, it is recognized as the style used by semi-literates.

It's also characteristic of some of our more persistent trolls....

Any fool can drink and smoke. We don't need fools or chemical addicts in the military.

You put 5000 plus on a ship, send them out to sea for sometimes 60-90 plus days without port of call, and hit a port what do you think they will do to let off steam? Keep in mind most of them worked 16-20 hour days 7 days a week. Being drunk onboard ship {underway or on duty} is not a good idea no indeed as such it is prohibited and by enlarge strictly enforced. But that is not the issue here.

Letting men who worked their tails off have some much deserved R & R drinking beer or even straight whiskey ain't gonna kill them. Our nation survived 200 years plus of such policy without the PC IDIOT's we have today running things or rather for the most part ruining all aspects of the military. Heck my Boot Camp Company Commander a MMC {E-7} came in the night we graduated with a snoot full himself.

The rate of alcohol dependency would still likely be much lower than civilians because of the deployment and time at sea demands. I saw a few have issues but the ratio was low. Maybe 1 in 100. Much better ration than most civilians.

Maybe the Pentagon can arrange a nice Ballet for the troops to attend when hitting port after being out at sea long periods of time. /sarcasm

As for smoking? Most ships at least in the 1970's you were lucky to get in a half a pack a day at sea and that was usually in your off time. I don't encourage the usage of either. I quit recreational usage of drinking and cigarettes quit over two decades ago. But I realize that if you want saints go to a Theology school. Not to say that many on ships do not abstain. But I've had many a shipmate I drank with the night beofre I would still trust with my life the next day. Then again there were some who didn't drink who you couldn't get a bit of work out of much less depend on.

I think this has been moved to chat. It's good for a laugh.

I'd be laughing at it if the title were changed.

It's highly offensive, IMO.

expensive toilet seats ...........you can get by without

Um, not, you can't, not if you're talking about a fiberglass cover for the sanitary tank on a P-3 aircraft with a toilet seat molded into it. You can't pick those up in the bargain bin at Ace Hardware. You gotta pay full retail for those.

i am very involved because i do know the damage. this is only one way to stir people up. it seems to work.

this kinder, gentler, military is going to cost lives. i do not want it to be the life of one of my family members who is lost because some pampered little kid wasn't taught to follow orders, wasn't taught fire discipline by having some gunny stand on his head, or thinks he can pull out a mental stress card in the middle of battle and call a time out!

how's that for a long sentence?

HM1(FMF) didn't get to stay and retire or make chief, but had a hell of a good run.

But I realize that if you want saints go to a Theology school.

Theology school is where many of the sexual-abusing priests got their start.

It's a well deserved slam against rampant PC in the military. Anyone with two functional brain cells could figure that one out. It's not a reflection on those serving in the enlisted or junior officer ranks, but rather those leading as in the Pentagon rank 0-9 and above as well as Civilian D.O.D. leadership of the past 17 years or so.

When I went in they made us dump our smokes and lightersin basic, that was back in 87 when the new no smoke policy went into effect. They used to let the 18-21 year olds get tanked on post with that 3.2 pistol beer. What a waste that was.

IMO drunks, dopers, and smokers can stay civilians...times are changing and we need all the edge we can get.

It's still an offensive title because it's unclear.

Of course, since the newbie poster is semi-literate that's not surprising.

But the title should still be changed to make the point clear and to avoid offending military folks and their families without cause.

JMHO

that's kind of a sad post. you think if someone drinks or smokes, they need not apply?

perhaps we are recruiting in the wrong places. we ought to set up shop outside the theology schools. maybe we could just have big old debates instead of war?

oh wait, that's what the un is for....that didn't work well, did it?

i guess if you reduce stress enough by not training hard, or giving "time out" cards, or not YELLING at the poor kids, then no stress relief is needed?

Gee.....I am an AF Medic, and I know what the Wounded Warriors consist of, the most wounded are Army, then Marines, then Navy (special forces) then AF, but the funny thing is, is that the AF flies them all to safety. That is our mission. We do play a part and no onem, will ever tell me different. I have seen the wounds.....up close and personal. I figure, unity is what we should work for. Just my opinion.......
