Not an OU fan, but this goes on everywhere. The mistake was not getting the money in cash.

OU boosters need to get down to Tuscaloosa to learn how it's done.

The first few posters here are absolutely correct. This goes on everywhere, and has for a very long time.

Just over 25 yrs ago I played small midwestern college football.

I used to recieve scholarship money from organizations that I had never heard of. I never submitted a thing for these scholarships.

I think it is perfect legit to pay a young man that sacrifices his health and well being.

Next time you put on your favorite teams jersey with a young college kids name on it, you need to stop and think where the money is going.

Just going by the spelling and grammatical errors, I'd have to guess the poster is an OU graduate.

Right. So many of us choose to regularly post on Texas Aggies fan forums.

If it's bad spelling and poor grammar that tipped you off, it could be a Sooner *or* an Aggie.

Did you hear the one about the Aggie who moved to Oklahoma? In doing so, he raised the IQ of both states.

colleges aren't allowed to sell jerseys with the players names on them. If there are names on the jerseys, they've been modified after the fact......

Great thread. They basically beat up on this guy because he wasn't sure how common this thing was and had no proof other than what his girlfriend was telling him. Somebody wanted him to post a copy of the paycheck before he would believe it.

Oh, well. I'm sure somewhere in cyberspace some college kid posted in 2000 that a bunch of arabs were talking about flying airplanes into skyscrapers and asking whether he should take it seriously. People on that board would have probably told him he was full of crap too.

The colleges themselves may not sell them directly, but I see them all the time in stores.

I would have to assume a licensing agreement to the University and they dammed well profit from that.

Isn't the internet amazing?

Nobody can get by with anything any more. Big Brother may not be watching, but you can bet someone with a camera phone or computer is.

As for the Texags thread, I give the mods credit for locking it back in January, even though the poster's rumors turned out to be true. I understand that Texags.com is run by two guys, and they to keep it under control.

Still, the Aggiegrant06 thread has had more than 200,000 views since they unlocked it on Saturday after the OU scandal broke, and he posted asking for an apology.

Football and the NCAA aside, I find this culturally intriguing.

Which stores? Have the players graduated from the college in question? That will tell me what you're talking about. Like right now you can't find a jersey with Troy Smith's name on it. He's the starting QB for Ohio State. Same with Teddy Ginn. However you CAN find jerseys with AJ Hawk's name on it, because he's not at the school anymore.

I would have to assume a licensing agreement to the University and they dammed well profit from that.

If they are buying them in bulk from the school, chances are they have a modification license. Same deal though, if the NCAA finds out that they are selling jerseys with CURRENT players names on them, that's a big problem because it's against the rules.

If by "everywhere" you mean the SEC, ACC and Big 12, you're right about that.

You maybe right I don't pay enough attention to what the rules actually are.

I was transplanted to Big Red country, there all over the place.
