I think Cash is gunning for racist Durham cops now. Clearly the Mangum case has not turned out, but he might hope to turn the interest into a look at those racist cops. This is a direction his readership might be very interested in.
That's how I read it.
Cash wrote a long, hard to follow article but here's what I get as his main points:
1. His main purpose was to defend Jakki and her claim.
2. In order to defend Jakki, he attacks Gottlieb's credibility. He does this by a) bringing up his alleged involvement in the attack on the Black cook; and b) writing several paragraphs at the end which basically cite defense objections to the investigation.
IOW, I got that he was putting the burden on the Durham investigators to answer the defense's points. It's not something we're used to seeing in the black or mainstream press.
