I was a steadfast dog man and couldn't stand cats until last summer when a friend and his wife who fell on hard times moved in with their two Siamese cats. They are absolutely the most charming creatures, cute, loving, friendly, gregarious and talkative. One is actually more like a dog than a cat. He gets excited to see me when I come home from work and gives me an exhuberant vocal greeting and follows me throughout the house for a while. The other loves to give leg rubs to show his affection and gives little sweet meows to signal he's glad to see you and even plays fetch with a small ball. He loves when I invent new games for him to play and becomes addicted to whatever new little game I invent for him. That one is scary smart. I always say he's a human in a cat suit.
Anyway, in short. I'm converted. I love these cats. And what's even more strange, I'm no longer allergic which was one of my biggest fears about having my friends move in with their cats.
And I forgot to add, my friends can stay at my place so long as the cats are around. They've bought themselves a place to stay as long as they want with those two cats.
The only thing any cat has ever said to me is "feed me
My Mom in MA has a Burmese and she swears it calls her "Ma."
It sits on her window sill, looks at her accusingly and asks her why she ever left Florida. Then it moves to the top of the fridge and waits, like a vulture over carrion, for her to open the door.
Some cats produce less dander than others. Dander is what triggers the allergic reaction. If their owners keep them extremely clean, that also helps.
Siamese are special, for sure. I have one and a Himalayan/Siamese cross, and they're both rather doglike - they greet me when I walk in the door and all that. The full Siamese even plays fetch. He can also open doors and drawers, jump from floor height to high shelves, and likes to experiment with rearranging my books, among other sometimes endearing / sometimes irritating traits. *sigh*
The downside is that I have two cats and a fairly large dog who all want to be with me at all times. Makes moving from room to room quite a production...especially as both cats are chatterers, though one is worse than the other.
She does wake me up in the night sometimes, though.
then you need to get yourself a siamese. they were bred to be that wonderful. word to the wise-do NOT buy a "mill" style kitty. youll end up heart broken because they come w/ the personality & a host of ailments. but they are pretty special.
Okay, how many Dittoheads can remember when Rush used to cats?

Great post! You definitely "get" Siamese cats. I love them to pieces - wouldn't own any other kind. As you've already discovered they're personable, fun, smart-smart and they're wonderful companions.
I've never understood some people's resistance to the breed. Perhaps they watched "Lady and the Tramp" when they were little and bought the inaccuracies Disney dished out about the breed. Too bad because in that case Disney was way off base.
A vet once told me the short, close coat of the Siamese is the least likely to cause allergic reactions. Certainly appears to be that way around here.
The directness of the Siamese breed seems to appeal to a lot of men. They will definitely let you know how they feel about whatever's going on. And it's for sure they'll always let you know where you stand. Enjoy!
Are you me? I've been a dog person my entire life.
My girlfriend is a cat person, a few years before going out a neighbor poisoned her cat. She was terrified of getting another one, after we moved in I encourged her to get a cat - just to make her happy.
And this cat, i use the exact same expression that you do, he's more like a dog. He'll bark, wait at the door when we come home.
And what's more amazing is we have a few homeless cats in the neighborhood and they are all friends. (one of the cats was pregnant and we didn't see her for a while, then she started to come around looking really skinny and hungry so we started feeding her. Then she started to hang out with the other cats again, and I thought the kittens were either abandoned or dead. But today (after a few days of typhoon rain at that) We saw the mother with 4 (FOUR) Kittens!! just off our balcony. Amazing.
