The Dixie Chicks' Oct. 7 concert at Sunrise's BankAtlantic Center has been canceled. No one wants to say precisely why or whether the show will be rescheduled -- at press time a venue official said confirmation is forthcoming, and the Chicks camp in Nashville did not return phone calls or e-mails.
But according to Pollstar, the concert industry's trade organization, the Oct. 7 date is now reserved for a concert in Australia.
The conservative country music community has had a beef with the Chicks ever since lead singer Natalie Maines spoke out against President Bush and later criticized country fans for their reactions. Ticket sales in Red States have been sluggish throughout the tour.
They should have just SHUT UP AND SANG.
Can you give me an example of a tour that was cancelled midway through the first leg (and not rescheduled) and was worth more than $20 million dollars in lost ticket sales?

There have been entire tours cancelled because the "artists" were in Jail or in rehab or whatever...
just because you don't like them and they are struggling doesn't mean it's the biggest ever.
That just means YOU want it to be the biggest ever.
Some people think they ARE bad musicians. Everyone has a right to their own opinion and can call them "bad musicians" if that's what they believe them to be.
It is the biggest debacle ever. And it couldn't have happened to a nicer group.
I don't mind the piling on from a personal basis. I'm not offended by ignorance - just amazed. I'm just offended as a "conservative" and a Freeper. I try to maintain the belief that we are "better" and more intelligent than liberals. And, when you read .. in bold caps no less, "yeahh dixie chicks suck bigtime", it degrades the entire site. Now, I know DU is MUCH, MUCH worse. But, if all you can manage is "Dixie Chicks suck bigtime", maybe one should self-censor - for the sake of the entire list.
The only "groupthimk" I will agree with is everyone has the right to think for themselves. But, the key word is "think"...not "react".
No, I agree with you. It's why I haven't bought their CD - and won't in the future. Natalie will never see that she was at fault. I'm gonna get REALLY hammered now but...it's an "insecure woman" thing. In addition, she is also immature and apparently spoiled. I predict she will end up an unhappy person in later years.
Damn, I MUST be getting old.... (sigh). 8 years of Freeping...probably about 2 full real-time years (yeah, about 1/4 of my life is spent freeping...wow I need to get a life!)
I have, they are excellent.
I LOVE Alison Krause. I've seen her live and own anything and everything by her. Amazing girl...
The previous biggest tour debacle was when the fake Guns N Roses 2002 tour (with only Axl Rose) was stopped mid-tour and cancelled 15 dates after rioting by fans and no-shows by Mr. Rose, and the ticket revenue lost was only around $9 million dollars.

There's enough things about them to easily,logically and quite rightly discuss them, find reasons to revile them, and show that they are idiots. But, they are good musicians. And, when they added Natalie (I have some pre "wide open spaces" DC Cd's - before NAtalie), they had a great sound and a good schtick. Not that there aren't many more and better musicians all over...but there's ALOT more to being a musical success than talent. And, they had it goin' on.
Not anymore...they are toast.

It's not how this life started ...that's for sure. Technically, I was a programmer for 15 years..now, I'm a "fashion designer" who uses butterflies. I work 10 times as hard for less money (for now) but, I get to see alot more naked women...so it's a trade-off!!! ;-)
If it is 7 to 1 for dogs and humans, then that's closer to 20 years for web-years!
