I'm told by a source intimate with his situation tonight that Mel Gibson "was really on the verge of suicide because he felt he was helpless to alcohol and didn't know what to do about it. That's why he was driving around 90 miles an hour.

So if you're going to off yourself, why put other people at risk?

It was sheer luck it was in the early AM when the streets were deserted. Any other time of day, it would have been a horrific crash. The worst thing about his behavior is not his anti-semitism, even though that's appalling all by itself; no - the worst thing was his total disregard for the lives of others. I don't have explain the physics of a 90 mile per hour car crash. And I don't want to think about the sight of the accident scene.
