Since so many here want so much to forgive Mel Gibson for his anti-semetic tirade and beligerent behavior towards law enforcement I was trying to come up with the best punishment. I think I got it. Besides the obligatory fine, I think the Judge should sentence him to 500 hours community service at the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust. What do you all think his sentence should be?
Alcohol releases social inhibitions that allows the verbal expression of feelings and desires you may not normally verbalize for socially correct reasons that would bring about embarrassment.
If you get me drunk enough, you would probably get an earful about lots of things and might even hear tall tales about things that I wish I might have done but never did. However, you would not get any "Jews are responsible for all wars" type of screed because that belief system is not a part of me.
There was his father, Prince Cholls (sic) saying he was "incandescant with rage". Then they had photo ops of Harry swilling out pig sties as penance. What a carry on! (laughs)
I have said this and I repeat. It will have a shelf life. Last time I challenged people to visit the thread exactly two weeks later. This I now do. On second thoughts, visit in just one weeks time.
Political correctness- just damn.
I'm not sure about that, but ............
****
I'm beginning to think that if the Jewish people didn't refer to themselves as "The Chosen People" things would have been a bit more pleasant for them over the years.
I played baseball for some money for some time back around 35 years ago. Back then, when a batter acted special, like a hot shot he sometimes received what we called "a brushback pitch", "a shave --- brushless or lather" every once in a while. Sometimes he actually got beaned (hit in the head). I thought it certainly was an overreaction, but it happened a lot.
What I am saying is that it is often much better to keep a lower profile in life, to keep your self-assurance to yourself ......... a more humble presentation..... then you do not "invite" a BEANING.
This "persecution" that the Jews have actually absorbed over the centuries may just be because they call themselves "the chosen people". Perhaps bad form if you ask me.
(jmo)
I am the last one to want to see anyone or anything injured for little or no reason. It's just completely wrong! Damn, I fret quite a lot when I hurt a bug in my nursery. But some folks may bring hurt upon themselves.
No matter........ I really wish all this ugliness and cruelty could end now .......... but the Middle East is filled with fools ......... all of them fools.
That is SO TRUE! It makes me ill!
My own experience, anecdotal, is quite different. I've never heard a Jew refer to himself to as "chosen"--and when I have used the term I earn myself yet another "antisemite." It's something I think Christians use more than others.
Although, one of the best movie lines is Tevye in Fiddler in his one-sided conversations with God..."I know we're the Chosen People. But couldn't you choose someone else once in a while?"
That is brilliant.
and ...... may I steal that???
LOL ....... he was asking a great question!
"How much freedom of speech you enjoy depends on who you insult."

So just like in Animal Farm some are more equal than others.
Everyone who is making this a bigger issue than it really is.
I also think it's all a bunch of noise over little.
People get wasted and say things they mean ...... and don't mean. I've been there....... often (unfortunately).
I just think 50 year old Mel needs to come out to my nursery here in Pennsylvania, let my lovely sister adore him for a few days ........ he can sit around and get a lot of crap off his chest.
Maybe he can help me transplant some ornamental grasses to pay for his meals.
I'll keep the beer out of sight.
;-)
By all means my good man. Use it everywhere, use it often.
"So just like in Animal Farm some are more equal than others."
I'd say that's an apt description.
Is that yours? If so, call up Bartlett's Familiar Quotations......... that is a classic!
:-)
From what I've heard, there has been an allegation that an officer changed his report and left out Gibson's alleged anti-semetic remarks.
Has it been proven that Gibson really made the alleged remarks? If he made anti-semetic remarks, he cannot be legally punished for exercising free speech, even though it's offensive.
If it can't be proven that he made the anti-semetic remarks, why the condemnation?
Gibson so much as admitted it in his mea culpa. If you go back and read it, I think you'll agree. The fact he hasn't denied it is even more evidence.
Hildy proclaimed rather robustly last night, I believe, that "the Jews have been persecuted throughout history". That is certainly true.
When Hildy was then innocently asked WHY that was, she mocked the question and the questioner. I want to know why people have "persecuted the Jews throughout history".
I swear I do not know the reason, not being much of a history expert.
You two sound like you know. Tell me, please.
Stepping away from Holocaust denial stuff is always wise.
Actors do have some choice in the parts they play. His choice of parts in that and many other movies has always been questionable (for a moral man, anyway).
Still, he gave strong performances, and as a director he shows he has a decent artistic vision. Doesn't make him anybody I'd care to be around however.
Concerning allegations of anti-semitism (that seem to arise out of words supposedly uttered while he was drunk, or his father's reputation in that regard) let me suggest it was undoubtedly difficult for his anti-semite "half" to produce "The Passion", which is a story where the hero is a Jew who rises from the dead ~ no mean trick! Besides, the original storyline was both developed by and put into writing by Jews.
Still, I reserve my harshest judgments for real killers and real thugs ~ not wannabees, or mobile mouths.
Truth is not likely to manifest itself under those conditions!
