Since so many here want so much to forgive Mel Gibson for his anti-semetic tirade and beligerent behavior towards law enforcement I was trying to come up with the best punishment. I think I got it. Besides the obligatory fine, I think the Judge should sentence him to 500 hours community service at the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust. What do you all think his sentence should be?
Having to listen to Barbra Streisand warble for 500 hours. Then, he must correct all her spelling on all her website entries.
Lastly he must stare at a picture of Ellen Ratner for eight hours.
;-)
Yoi!
I do not want nor need an apologize from Mr. Gibson. In fact, I'd respect him more if he didn't. As far as your comments...I suppose you'd like us to just be nice and quiet because as we all know, nobody wants to do us any harm. I've been reading your posts for years..I never thought you'd be so obvious in your bigotry.
I don't think it was just an outburst. I think he has battled inwardly the teachings of his father all along. But I do think he has tried to rise above those teachings.
I could very well be wrong. If I am, then I would have nothing more to do with him. Period.
lol
For his drunken outburst against the cop, Gibson should get whatever anybody else gets for resisting arrest.
For his outbursts to the cop along the lines of "Are you a Jew?" and "Jews are responsible for all wars", he should get no additional penalty as that is First Amendment protected speech.
Judicial punishment is one thing. However Mel Gibson has punished himself to a far greater degree than a Judge ever could.
The most valuable possession that a man has is his good name. Up to now, I admired that name. That has now changed.
It can be argued that the man was drunk and that the alcohol influenced what he said. That is certainly true. But alcohol takes away your inhibitions and allows you to say what you would otherwise only think but keep to yourself for socially correct reasons.
The alcohol allowed to hear Gibson's true beliefs and what we learned about his true beliefs was very disillusioning.
Gibson's punishment will be the loss of his good name.
No Judge could give him a greater punishment and no amount of community service will make us think that Gibson has changed his true beliefs regarding Jews.
People get community service all the time for first time DUI convictions...my vanity was more of a wish list.
Yes, you are correct...his good name is gone and that is the worst punishment a man can endure.
yes, and I think the incredible public humiliation is plenty of punishment.
He should get the standard punishment for whatever he's charged with (like disorderly conduct, for example). As repugnant as what is said is, it isn't illegal to make racial slurs. He should be punished for smarting off/cussing out the police officers & driving drunk.
Quite the assumption.
LOL
The truth is Jews have made an industry of anti-semitism. But if your ideology is right you can get away with it. Jesse Jackson is still a big part of the RAT party and you don't hear the ADL say to much about him.
Punishment for words!? Nothing legal. 1st Amendment guarantees that. Certainly boycotting his work is a way one can express their opinion of his words.
Bro, I never asked for Mel to apologize nor does he need to. My only comments were that Hollywood won't really care as long as he makes money (interesting enough the same issue of "hollywood only cares about money" was dealt on ENTOURAGE tonight) and that I lost respect for him because I believe his true thoughts about Jews were expressed.
Easy explanation. You see, Israel isn't the be-all/end-all issue for most American Jews. (Nor should it be). Liberal Jews are pro-"choice," anti-gun, pro-welfare state, pro-affirmative action, etc. .....you get the picture? With a resume like that, why wouldn't they support liberals? They are liberals.
Now on the other side of the coin there's people like me -- (politically) conservative Jews who are pro-2nd Amendment, anti-tax, anti-big gov't, etc. Israel, while certainly an important consideration, is far from the top of the list.
Seems a lot of non-Jews believe that Israel tops the list of importance for Jews on both sides of the political spectrum, and it's simply not true. Certainly for some it's true, but they're in the distinct minority.
Mel does prove that money and even talent will not buy you happiness. Maybe that makes some people feel better.
This is very true, but Mel does have a substantial history in this arena.
Are you here agreeing to the existence of the persecution complex?
