What should Mel Gibson's punishment be? (VANITY)

Since so many here want so much to forgive Mel Gibson for his anti-semetic tirade and beligerent behavior towards law enforcement I was trying to come up with the best punishment. I think I got it. Besides the obligatory fine, I think the Judge should sentence him to 500 hours community service at the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust. What do you all think his sentence should be?

Anytime a celebrity is arrested it's leaked to the press. It's just part of the game.

Yes, if you are battling such hatreds already within yourself, true.
I have said that Foxman, et al are not blameless.

How about this. Let him take the fall for the DUI from the courts and let him take the fall for the remarks from the market for his movies. I am sick that he made the statements but it is also sick to enjoy the fact that he did.

While .12 might not have that much of an impact on one person, the same might have a much greater impact on another.
Facts About Alcohol and Aging Some research has shown that as people age they become more sensitive to alcohols effects. In other words, the same amount of alcohol can have a greater effect on an older person than on someone who is younger.
Some medical conditions, such as high blood pressure, ulcers, and diabetes, can worsen with alcohol use.
Many medicinesprescription, over-the-counter, or herbal remediescan be dangerous or even deadly when mixed with alcohol. This is a special worry for older people because the average person over age 65 takes at least two medicines a day.
If you take any medicines, ask your doctor or pharmacist if you can safely drink alcohol. Here are some examples:
Aspirin can cause bleeding in the stomach and intestines; the risk of bleeding is higher if you take aspirin while drinking alcohol.
Cold and allergy medicines (antihistamines) often make people sleepy; when combined with alcohol this drowsiness can be worse.
Alcohol used with large doses of the pain killer acetaminophen can raise the risk of liver damage.
Some medicine, such as cough syrups and laxatives, have a high alcohol content.
Effects of Alcohol
Even drinking a small amount of alcohol can impair judgment, coordination, and reaction time. It can increase the risk of work and household accidents, including falls and hip fractures. It also adds to the risk of car crashes.
Heavy drinking over time also can cause certain cancers, liver cirrhosis, immune system disorders, and brain damage. Alcohol can make some medical concerns hard for doctors to find and treat. For example, alcohol causes changes in the heart and blood vessels. These changes can dull pain that might be a warning sign of a heart attack. Drinking also can make older people forgetful and confused. These symptoms could be mistaken for signs of Alzheimers disease. For people with diabetes, drinking affects blood sugar levels.
Neither you nor I were there so we don't know all of the circumstances, but you seem bent on believing that the words he spewed couldn't possibly have come out simply because of his intoxication. From the posts I've read, it *almost* sounds like you hope it wasn't the alcohol talking. Perhaps he really was messed up to the point where he said things he didn't believe..things he'd heard in the past from his father that he doesn't agree with or whatever. Of course, if that turns out to be the case it would take a little of the wind out of your "Mel Gibson's a Jew-hater" sails so I doubt you're allowing yourself to even consider that scenario.

I don't think most enjoy it. It is just a big letdown.
I believe some Jews are feeling vindicated of their suspicions. Mel has only himself to blame for that sentiment.
I, myself, am greatly disappointed. I really like Mel Gibson.

I've never experienced hatred for a a whole race or nationality, but certain individuals, yes.

What I'm referring to is what's called Christian love. I understood what you were saying. Open arms of forgiveness after sincere repentance goes a lot further than flaming hate.

How do you measure "SINCERE REPENTENCE?"
