Agreed. I know opinion pisses off the pit bull activists, that we that feel this way are ill informed, etc, but I just don't see the point of owning this breed. There are plenty of others to choose from.

There is no good reason to own a pit bull. I dont know if its a good reason, but protection is the reason. That's why they popular in the hood, where this lady probably lived. Hell, even in my neighborhood, which is quiet, I avoid the house with the loose pit bull. Just don't want to go near the damn psycho dog.

There is no good reason to own a pit bull. Here we go again.....Canis familiarus means dog...period. Breeding is something that is done to select dogs for certain tasks. Now if you dangle kittens in the face of your sweet lovely Golden Retriever and let them scratch their faces, then let the dog kill and dismember the kitten, then move the dog up to people by training them to attack, then you have a potential killer.
The breed may give you a predispostion for certain behavior in dogs, but training will make or break a dog. If this dog was mistreated by some drug dealing scum to attack people at random, then nothing on heaven and earth will change a dog whether its a toy poodle or a pit bull.

OK, I'll be the first to pipe up about pit bulls in general, not the psycho dogs here. This breed in known to be very people friendly and very social. However, the phsycho gang-banger or tough guy types think having a pit bull is some kind of macho status symbol. And some want mean animals so they make them mean. Even if every pit bull on the planet were to suddenly evaporate away, another breed, German Shepherd, Rottwielter or Dobies for example, would become the next breed to be made into 'bad dogs.' And anyone who owns a dog has to be responsible for properly training and socializing it.
I'm just dissappointed that so many conservatives on this site want to run to big government to ban dogs they don't like and don't support personal responsibility and freedom of ownership. It's characteristically liberal. Replace 'pit bull ban' with 'gun ban' and see what a different reaction you would get.

Agreed! They should be banned everywhere. I have read about these attacks
with more regularity as the years go by. It was my bad luck to have it happened to someone in my family last week. My daughter who is away at college was walking her ShiTzu and a Pit Bull came out of nowhere and attacked her dog.
She reacted as many of us would, foolishly. She grabbed the Pit Bull by it's chain collar risking her own life and tried to choke the dog down. She is a small 4'11" very strong little girl and fought for her precious dogs life. The Pit Bull would not let go of her dog and luckily a good Samaritan from across the street witnessed the attack. He picked up the Pit Bull, with the ShiTzu in it's jaws and body slammed it to the ground. Still it would not let go. As they both struggled, choking, punching this evil creature she heard it finally gasping for air. With her hands bloodied from the chain she found additional strength from it's gasping to wrench it up off the ground and twist harder and finally choked it enough for it to let go. The helper kicked it in the head and grabbed his collar. Animal control was called and removed the beast and said it would be put down immediately.
As a parent hundreds of miles away from my precious daughter having to here her recant this story to me over the phone, it scared me to death realizing that she was at serious risk of her own life. She was severely traumatized mentally by the event and still has trouble telling the story.
The defenders of this breed have nothing but ridiculous arguments. The breed was developed for fighting. They need to be be banned everywhere.
God bless this woman who died, what a horrible way to go.
Any loose Pit Bulls I see in my neighborhood get the double tap to the head!
