Just read in Friday's local paper on an article that there are 35 million reasons why humanity didn't evolve from chimps and that scientists have turned elsewhere to explain humanity's evolution. But for those who believe they evolved from apelike creatures, Darwin's evolution theory will still be taught in schools.

Okly dokly. As long as you've got a reliable scientific source.

But it's right. Chimps are a current species. The time contraint means we couldn't be descended from them

Huh? Methinks you either misread the article or are making this up. Science has never said man evolved from chimps. Man and chimps evolved from a common ancestor and split somewhere between 5MYA and 7MYA.

Not Darwin, nor any other scientist has ever claimed that humanity evolved from "chimps." Only Creationists state that--as a grotesque and ignorant paradoy of the actual theory of evolution.

Somebody wasted an awful lot of time compiling "35 million" reasons for refuting a strawman.

Either the paper published poor information or you misunderstood the article. Could you link to the article or reproduce what it says here?

Btw, no biologist claims we evolved from modern Chimps. We share a common ancestor and have both diverged from that point. Because of this it is misleading to measure the distance between humans and chimps, the differences have to be measured from the common ancestor. This minimally divides the distance between modern humans and modern chimps by two. It may be that chimps differ from the common ancestor more than we do, or the opposite may be true.

The acceptance of our common ancestor with chimps is pretty much universal among biologists. (Some claim the Gorilla and a very few the Orang. as our nearest relative)

Some of us like to debate.

And there are others who drop their odd comment and leave and ignore all the "posts to you" in response.

I know which one you are.
